Phil Caplan, SOC
In Memoriam

In August the SOC received a note from the cousin of an old friend of ours...

This is to notify you that my cousin, Phil Caplan, passed away on July 16, 2012, at the age of 63.  He had a stroke approximately 22 years ago, after which he was unable to work.  His work as a camera operator included such films as: Pretty Woman, Star Trek V, Three Amigos, Harlem Nights, Jaws: The Revenge, Naked Gun-From the files of Police Squad and Grease 2.  His TV series work included Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere and Magnum PI.
Phil Kaplan
Phil Caplan, SOC dies at 63.

He was honored with the SOC President's Award in 1992, which meant a lot to him, considering how abruptly and prematurely his career ended.  He truly loved his profession, and managed to retain great memories of his work to the end.

He was proud to be associated with with the SOC from its very early days--he may have even been a part of its original formation, I'm not exactly sure. Your member roster most recently reflected him as a retired member. I have attached a photo of Phil (on location someplace?!) in the event you wish to publish his death notice in your newsletter, and would like to include it.

Kind Regards,
Geri Rumbolz
