B-SAFE Week:  July 16-18

Once again Good Shepherd is sponsoring a week at the B-SAFE Program at St. Luke's/San Lucas Church during the week of July 14th.  PLEASE NOTE:  Because St. Luke's Church is under construction this summer, the St. Luke's B-SAFE program is being held at Grace Church in Everett (which is actually a little closer to Reading!).  This year we are again partnering with St. Paul's, Lynnfield to provide and serve lunch from Monday-Thursday and organize a field trip on Friday to the Ipswich River Sanctuary.

B-SAFE is a great program in our diocese that provides an all-day camp with snacks, meals, games, and learning for over 500 kids in urban communities in Boston.  B-SAFE also provides teenagers with an opportunity to have employment as counselors and staff members--and more importantly, to learn to be leaders in their communities.  Churches all over the diocese partner with the B-SAFE program to provide a week of nutritious snacks and lunches. Founded by St. Stephen's in the South End, there are now six B-SAFE sites throughout greater Boston; the St. Luke's site in Chelsea serves about 60 children as well as teen counselors and adult volunteers and staff.

There are several ways to participate in this great outreach opportunity and we really, really need your help.  You may sign up to:

  • donate baked goods or groceries
  • donate money to purchase produce and pizza and help offset the cost of the field trip
  • help cook and serve at Grace Church in Everett (67 Norwood St., Everett)               on July 16 or 17
  • help chaperone the field trip on Friday, July 18, to the Ipswich River Sanctuary.  Tickets are $9/person; children welcome!

If you can help, please click here to sign up online.  This is a great family activity!  There will also be sign-up sheets with a grocery list and needed items on the bulletin board outside the sanctuary.  You may bring donations to the office on Sunday, or on Monday or Tuesday of that week during office hours 8am-12pm.
