Good News
From the Church of the Good Shepherd
a welcoming and inclusive parish dedicated to growing in faith, spirit and community

May 4, 2014

From the Senior Warden:  Special Parish Meeting This Sunday

Following our 10:00 service this Sunday, May 4, the Vestry invites all parishioners to come to a special parish meeting.  The purpose of this meeting is for all of us to share our feelings about Scottie's leave of absence, our concerns and hopes for her return and the future of Good Shepherd.  Sylvia Missal, a consultant offered by the Diocese, will be present to help facilitate the meeting.  She has been meeting with the Vestry and Scottie.

Your vestry and the Diocese know that Rev Scottie's sudden departure has generated a full spectrum of emotions.  As we move forward in planning her return, we believe that an opportunity to ask questions and share our feelings will help us develop a stronger bond with one another and with Scottie.

Please know that this meeting is to address the healing of Good Shepherd and our people, not to discuss specifics of Scottie's treatment.  Scottie is aware of the plans for this meeting and endorses this chance for the parish to talk.  I hope you will all take some time to join us for this meeting and share your feelings and concerns, and, as always, keep Scottie and Good Shepherd in your prayers.

Linda

Parish Auction Thank You

Thank you to all who came to the auction last Saturday, and to all who donated auction items.  Due to your generous bids we raised $2610 -- all of which will go back to the church.  Thank you also to Bernie Herrick who as auctioneer encouraged the crowd to bid early and often!  Also, the night would not have gone so smoothly and the lounge would not have looked so festive without the hard work of Sue Geraghty, Susan Buckley, Jill Silva and Trish Leyne -- great job ladies!  And finally, a huge thank you to Merri DuRoss for organizing the entire event!

Book of Remembrance for Bishop Tom Shaw

Each congregation in our diocese is preparing a Book of Remembrance to be presented to Bishop Tom this summer.  Please look for our book in the lounge on Sundays (or in the office during the week), and use it to record and share your thoughts about his ministry and/or prayers for him.

These books will be presented to Bishop Tom at a culminating celebration and commemoration of his ministry at a Family Picnic and BBQ on June 21st.  The festive event will take place from 10:30 am - 1:00 pm, rain or shine, at the Pinebank Promontory on Jamaica Pond (corner of Perkins Street and the Jamaicaway) in Jamaica Plain.

Collection for Mission of Deeds

As part of his Eagle Scout Project, Karl Hersh, an EMARC student and Good Shepherd volunteer, is collecting linen donations for the Mission of Deeds.  A collection box is located in the hallway outside the church office.  Please donate any new or gently used towels, sheets, blankets, potholders, pillow cases or face cloths.  The collection runs until May 3, and all donations will be given to Mission Of Deeds here in Reading in order to assist low-income families.  Thank you!
