Recent flooding has touched many throughout Southeast Louisiana and many will want to make contributions to help those affected. Make sure any donations you make in the recovery effort are to legitimate charities. Information on charities can be found through the BBB Wise Giving Alliance.

In the wake of flooding in SE LA be cautious who you donate to.
           
In recent days several parishes across Southeast Louisiana have been affected by rising waters creating widespread flooding. When Disaster strikes, scam artists usually follow and your BBB wants you to be aware of those asking for donations for flood victims. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance is a resource to help consumers and businesses gather information about the charity they are thinking of donating to.

As consumers and businesses rebuild following these floods remember the BBB Accredited Business Directory when searching for a contractor. 


  
 

Raspberry Pi and Facebook: BBB Warns About Social Spoofing 

The ad says "$50-$100 per month to participate in a 'Paid Study' researching social media usage on Facebook."  Seems like easy money!
Sound too good to be true?  That's because it is.


 
BBB Scam Alert: Beware of Government Grant Scams

Claims of "free government grants" from the US government that ask for personal information such as your Social Security and bank account numbers or ask you to pay a "processing fee" are scams.  They offer you "free" money but instead, they try to steal your identity, your money, or both.

Natural Disasters 


In the wake of recent natural disasters including Tornadoes, Flooding, etc. the BBB joined WWL-TV to bring you information on avoiding a Contractor Scam. 

 
BBB Scam Tracker                                                  

Better Business Bureau has launched BBB Scam Tracker to provide consumers across North America with a place to report scams and fraud, and to warn others of malicious or suspicious activities. All 112 BBBs operating in Canada and the United States are now collecting information from consumers and processing data, which is shared with law enforcement agencies for use in identifying and prosecuting scammers.
