Dear BBB Accredited Business,

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and campaigns to help raise funds and awareness for the cause are everywhere. However, scams also appear and are sometimes difficult to tell from the real deal.

The BBB has been taking calls regarding the ongoing IRS phone scam. Even though this scam is not new it can still take consumers by surprise. Make sure you don't fall prey to this continuous scam.

It's National Cyber Security Awareness Month,and the BBB urges consumers to be cautious when "clicking" on the internet. One Click could redirect you to a scam link meant to compromise computers.

Consumers have been receiving phone calls from supposed computer repair companies wanting to "help" with their computer problem.

The actual problem is that the caller is trying to gain access to your computer.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: BBB Advises Be Aware of 'Pinkwashing'

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and many products are promoted as benefiting charities dedicated to cancer research or survivor assistance. But some pink products may provide limited benefits to charities, BBB advises. October is the month when "pinkwashing" begins. "Pinkwashing" is a term used to describe unscrupulous companies that claim to support breast cancer research, but never actually fulfill their claim about donating toward breast cancer charities

BBB Scam Alert: The Ongoing IRS Phone Scam

Last year, the IRS issued a warning about a phone scam that had bogus IRS officials demanding immediate and untraceable payments of money over the phone. Since the warning, the number of complaints to the IRS has reached more than 90,000 and total losses has surpassed $5 million, calling for the IRS to issue another warning, according to Time.
