BBB International Assembly '14 

to be hosted in New Orleans!

 

BBB serving Southeast Louisiana will be honored to host around 300 representatives from BBBs around North America on September 21-24, 2014.  We are asking our BBB Accredited Businesses to participate in providing donations for welcome bags.  If you have any promotional items of local significance, coupons for attendees, or a financial contribution, please let us know.  All donations will be acknowledged on signage in the welcome area and in the bags.  Contact us at:info@neworleans.bbb.org or 504-581-6222 x119

 There are lots of scams circulating right now. 

We are receiving a lot of calls regarding different types of scams that have been contacting consumers across the area! 

 

Below we have included articles of information on each of these scams and how consumers can prevent becoming a victim of any of these scams. 

 

Please remember that banks or creditors will not ask for personal information when they contact you. If you have questions about something you receive - either by mail, telephone, or email - contact us and we will help you figure out if it's legitimate. 

 

A great rule of thumb for any "offer" you may receive is: "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"!

BBB Warning: Bank "Phishing" Scam

 

We have received numerous calls over the last few days from consumers who received an automated call from 877.886.1996  in which they were told their debit card had been deactivated and they needed to provide the debit card number to proceed. The name of the bank has varied with each call, but in any case we urge consumers to avoid giving out any personal information if you receive one of these calls. If you have concerns hang up and contact your bank directly to see if there is a problem with your accounts. 
 

 Please remember your bank or creditors will not ask you for this personal information when they contact you. This is a "Phishing" scam to obtain your personal information!

Looking to earn extra income working from home? Don't bother applying to this fake shipping business that claims to be based in Wisconsin. It's a con, and your work may help scammers.
 
 
Beware 'Rachel from cardholder services'

Rachel has new tricks up her sleeve "Rachel from cardholder services" seems to have been around long enough that she should be in a retirement home by now. But, no, she just keeps on calling. 

 

The robo-call scammers that have been aggravating people for so many years is still interrupting meals, waking up babies and trying their hardest to steal money from the gullible.
