Dear BBB Accredited Business,

 

On July 31st, the BBB will implement changes that have been underway for quite some time now. After several recent studies regarding what consumers look for when using our website, and in response to other websites that offer "more" information on businesses, the BBB will offer Complaint Details in publishing.

 

Our first article gives you more insight into how this will work and what information will be shared with consumers.

 

With smartphones, i pads, tablets, etc. WI-Fi is something we all look for everywhere we go, but is it safe to use? Learn how to use WI-Fi safely and what sites to avoid when using WI-Fi!

   

The BBB has partnered with the Western Union Company to bring awareness to consumers in regards to certain scams. Find out what to look for and how to avoid being victimized.

Our Video this month helps you make online car purchases safely. Fox 8 teams with the BBB to bring you these tips.

Better Business Bureau - Information on New Complaint Detail Publishing

On  July 31, the Better Business Bureau serving Southeast Louisiana including the Tri-Parish Area will join a growing list
of BBBs throughout the country that offer complaint details in their free Business Reviews.
Previously, complaints were classified into twelve categories
and only the type of each complaint was reported, along with
basic information on how that complaint was closed.
Starting July 31 ,the actual text from consumer complaints
will be included, as well as the initial business response, and any subsequent business/consumer correspondence in reportable complaints.

The BBB is making this change in response to feedback solicited from consumers over the last several months.
Research showed consumers were looking for more detailed
information on the types of complaints companies receive
and how those complaints were ultimately resolved. This change also gives companies more of a voice in the complaint process, allowing consumers to directly observe their response to customer issues.

Free Wi-fi - An Open Door to Identity Theft

On a summer vacation, you should be able to sit back and relax, not worry about your identity being stolen. Unfortunately, there have been more and more reports of scammers trying to collect personal information by creating unsecured Wi-Fi zones near hotels that guests can connect to for free.  
 

Western Union & BBB Partner to Protect Consumers from Emergency Scams

Better Business Bureau is partnering with the Western Union Company (NYSE: WU) to promote awareness of emergency scams, in which victims are told that their loved one is traveling and needs help. Scammers make urgent pleas for the victim to send money, often to another country. More people travel during the summer, and whenever people are vulnerable, fraudsters will generally attack.
