Dear BBB Accredited Business,

 

May 27, 2013 - Memorial Day- a day to honor those  who serve and remember those who have died in the name of War. Sadly enough scammers use this day to target those same people. Read our first article to understand how these scams work and why they can be successful.

 

Even though the past few weeks have been cooler than normal, summer is around the corner. As children prepare for their last days of school, parents prepare for summer vacations. Our next article brings you tips on avoiding those unwanted "hidden" fees when booking your vacations.

 

Callers across our area have been receiving calls regarding Medical Alert Devices. Even though it says these devices are free, there are hidden charges and consumers should be aware of this new scam.

Beware of Memorial Day Scams Aimed at Military Personnel

But sadly, it has also become a key opportunity for scammers to target those who are serving or have served their nation, especially elderly veterans. As Memorial Day approaches, the Better Business Bureau urges consumers and donors to be aware of scammers that feed off the military.

Consumers Need to Carefully Check for Hidden Fees When Making Vacation Plans

Apparent bargain-priced vacations may be presenting only a portion of the customer-cost story. The Better Business Bureau advises consumers to carefully investigate and compare vacation plans, as well as ask questions about extra fees that could significantly impact your vacation budget.
 

Recent Medical-Alert Phone Calls Suspicious Warns BBB

Over the past few weeks the Better Business Bureau, Inc. (BBB) has received numerous calls from consumers across its service area stating that someone had called to inform them that a medical alert device, similar to Life Alert, had been purchased for them and it will be delivered at no charge.
