  December can be a very busy month with end of the year reports, holiday shopping, etc. However, we urge you to be vigilant in the final month of 2012 and not let your guard down. Because it's the holidays, crooks are out in full force and are ready to take advantage of those who are vulnerable.    

 

Our first article is our Holiday Top Ten List.

It features all the usual seasonal ripoffs and how to protect yourself through this busy time of year.   

 

Gift Cards have become a top gift, especially for those hard to buy for people. Do you know all the rules that go along with purchasing a gift card and how to keep your gift card safe? Read our second article to find out the best way to protect your purchase.  

 

Many families travel out of town or state to visit relatives or take a vacation during the holiday season. Scammers know this and will take advantage of you during your holiday road trip. Make sure you know how to protect yourself while traveling this holiday season.  

 

This time of year is for giving. Charities usually asks for Holiday gifts and consumers find themselves to be in a very giving mood. Beware of Seasonal Ripoffs: The Better Business Bureau Offers Tips to Protect Yourself

"Tis the season" generally brings happy thoughts... but unfortunately, we must still be aware of the Grinches among us. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) offers ten tips to consumers to avoid theft, fraud and scams during the holiday season.

Gift cards make excellent presents, especially during the holidays when you're unsure of what to buy for a family member or friend. But like everything else, gift cards may have hidden fees and strings attached. It's important to read the fine print before buying and giving. 
 
 
Avoid Common Holiday Travel Scams

 Over the river and through the woods is not nearly as close as it used to be; and if trends reflect AAA's 2011 estimates, approximately 91 million people will travel at least 50 miles over the holidays. Better Business Bureau is reminding potential travelers to watch out for common scams:

The holiday season inspires people to reach out and give to those less fortunate.Although charities accept donations year-round, close to 40 percent of a charity's annual contributions are received in the last few weeks of the year. Before giving time, treasures or talent this holiday season, Better Business Bureau reminds consumers to give wisely.
