The CAC also provides prevention education for parents, professionals and agencies in our community. We look to a future where all children live in a safe and nurturing environment free from abuse.

The Cumberland County Community Coalition for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse in conjunction with the Child Advocacy Center will participate in the 19 Days of Child Abuse Prevention Campaign from November 1-19. The main focus of the 19 Days' activities this year will be educating preschool children through story time events about appropriate and inappropriate touches. The books,
Some Parts are Not for Sharing by Julie Federico and
Do You Have a Secret by Jennifer Moore-Mallinos, will be read to approximately 1000 preschool children throughout Cumberland County and Fort Bragg. The books will help children learn about personal boundaries and appropriate touching in a very non-threatening way. These story times provide us an opportunity to educate the very young in a fun environment. It is critical that children are made aware at an early age about protection of their bodies and who to tell if they feel uncomfortable. During last fiscal year, of the 661 children served by the Child Advocacy Center, 260 were less than 7 years old. A critical step in preventing child sexual abuse is to empower children to say "no" to unwanted touches and to teach them that they can tell or approach a trusted adult with questions or concerns without fear of getting "in trouble".
On Friday, November 6, from 8 - 9 a.m. there will be a Community Child Abuse Prevention Breakfast with guest speakers Marty, Carol and Wesley Hogue. Wesley is a survivor of child sexual abuse perpetrated by...

Introducing our new Forensic Interviewer/Victim Family Advocate
By Roberta Humphries - Executive Director
Rayquelle M. Bost, LMSW, LCSWA, has been named the new Forensic Interviewer/Victim Family Advocate for the Child Advocacy Center. She has a Master's degree in Social Work from East Carolina University and has specialized experience as a Mental Health Case Manager and Child Protective Services Specialist. Rayquelle is trained in ChildFirstTM Forensic Interviewing of Children. She began work at the CAC on July 1.
"I applied for the FI/VFA position at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) because of my belief in the agency's mission to provide a safe and child friendly setting that supports the prevention, investigation and prosecution of child abuse. During my career I have had the privilege of working with children and families for over 11 years in a variety of settings, including mental health, child protective services, the hospital setting, and overseas on a military installation with soldiers and their families. When I learned that the CAC had an open position, I hoped that I might be able to use my education and past work experiences to help support the agency's mission. Since starting my new position with the CAC, I have appreciated the training and information I have received, as well as access to the wealth of knowledge exemplified by my co-workers, which they have been so willing to share. I am truly amazed and encouraged by the strength shown by the children and families that we work with each day, and look forward to my continued growth at the CAC!"
