Prevention is Key to Stopping Child Abuse in our Community
by Roberta J. Humphries, Executive Director
The children of Cumberland County are our future parents, workers and leaders. The future prosperity of our community relies on their healthy development. When children are raised in stimulating, nurturing environments, free from abuse, their opportunity to thrive and grow up to become successful, contributing members of our community is greatly increased. Investment in programs that build strong families and help children succeed and work to prevent child abuse in Cumberland County is an investment in our community's future.

Research has told us for many years that childhood trauma has long-term negative impact for the child and society. Adverse childhood experiences such as child abuse are major risk factors for the leading causes of illness and death... Read more |

Now is the time to Join Hands with the CAC
We need your help to continue providing our services to child victims of abuse in our community. During calendar year 2012 the CAC served 487 child victims of sexual and severe physical abuse and saved the community an estimated $500,000 through the multi-disciplinary team approach to child abuse cases. In addition to our onsite services to these children we provide child abuse prevention classes to the community. These classes teach adults how to recognize and report child abuse and how to implement safety measures to reduce a child's risk of being sexually abused. During 2012, 1,201 adults have participated in prevention classes.
There are many ways that you can help the CAC continue providing these much needed programs and services in our community... Read More |
