 Something special about Fantasy cutting...

Dalan Ametrine Puzzle Piece

You probably have seen Dalan Hargrave's inventive ametrine Jigsaw puzzle piece that he accomplished on the Fantasy Machine. It has been shown on the Ultra Tec Facebook page, and the stone has received many comments on its cleverness and interesting good looks.

There is, however, an additional "message" sent by this stone - a message that deserves special comment:   It is a prime example of how the Fantasy Machine enables the gem cutter to transform a too-shallow-to-cut piece of rough into a valued finished stone. Many faceters have too-shallow pieces of rough set aside -often for years of not being willing to lose so much material  because of the depth requirement (you probably have a couple of those - particularly quartz varieties).  Finally, here's your answer for that rough - don't lose the weight - use that rough for the appropriate Fantasy cut.

The particular "jigsaw puzzle piece design" idea not only rescues your relatively shallow rough, but also accommodates irregular outside shapes - twists and turns wherever you'd like them, or wherever your rough needs them..

This fantasy cut by Charles Flynn conveys a similar message.  It received many oohs and ahs from the viewers in Tucson back in February.

So, a little inventiveness with your Fantasy Machine pays off - in both artistic value and, with maximized yield from the rough - financial value.

IN LANCASTER PENNSYLVANIA - JEFF HAPEMAN...

Jeff Hapeman's love of minerals and gems has been with him from his boyhood - and his varied career in the field has ranged from mining rough in Pala, California to cutting finished gemstones.  When we first spoke to Jeff Hapeman, early this year, he was still living in Southern California and in conversation, his intense interest in faceting was apparent.  He had learned to facet on an "oldie" - a pre-1970 Ultra Tec machine.  And, driven to mastering professional level gem cutting, Jeff opted for the best - and ordered a V5.  His comment about his new V5:  "...superb machine!  It allows me to cut some amazing gemstones".  Hapeman Red

Now. Jeff and his wife have "moved home" to Lancaster - near their family -- and own the business Earth's Treasury .  He has gotten his gem and jewelry business going - and growing.  And, as an Ultra Tec's Rep, he is offering faceting lessons.  Ultra Tec is happy to have Jeff - skilled, enthusiastic, nice guy - on the team.

IN EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA - RUSTY PIMM...

Rusty Pimm began gem cutting in the 70's, beginning with cabbing and carving, and progressed to faceting in the 80's. He has worked full time in the gem industry since that time, in several different aspects, from mining to retail. Rusty built and operated the Aurora Ammolite mine in Edmonton and has been involved in the production of ammolite gemstones and fossils. He reports that he became fascinated by the unique beauty of fantasy cut stones, and after struggling with homemade equipment, obtained an Ultra Tec Fantasy machine - Rusty is very pleased that the Fantasy's precision and functionality provides him with the quality of fantasy cut that he strives for.

He writes "I am happy to represent Ultra Tec's excellent line of equipment". We're happy to have this gem-cutting pro on the team!
