Chamber Golf League to Start May 10th
golf2.jpg

Come play golf every Tuesday with the Bedford Chamber, with tee off times starting at 4 pm until 5:30 pm. New and single players are always welcome!! The Patriot Golf Course, located across from the VA Hospital (200 Springs Road, Bedford) is a very nice, well maintained private course that you can only play with the Bedford Chamber or if you have served in the military. We have returned to regular tee times like previous years. To get a tee time, email Tim Devlin at [email protected]  Tim will send out a list of all the tee times at the end, and the beginning of each week. Tee times will be issued on a first come, first serve basis! Get your tee time today and join us for some fun on the course!
Chamber members pay the discounted rate of $16 per player for 9 holes, carts are $6.50 per person. Players with a military background receive a larger discount. There is a driving range and putting green to practice before you play. Snacks, refreshments and golf items are all available in the Pro Shop. This is a great way to meet other chamber members and have some fun!

May Leadership Luncheon
Harness the Power of Mobile

Our Leadership Lunch brings unique value to business owners and managers by providing a speaker each month focused on marketing, and a round-table discussion among attendees to find value in their marketing efforts.  Many small businesses do marketing but they often don't focus on the results of the marketing they are doing.  This round-table series will provide the environment to do so with our monthly educational talks, and the ability for your to learn from your peers.

Format for the meeting is:
  • brief networking
  • lunch/seminar at the same time
  • then a round-table discussion on what people are doing for marketing to grow their business
    • each month we will check back with previous guests on the different results they are seeing as well

This month

Summer Walk About
A Summer Walkabout and one is planned for July 13 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. The event will focus on a community walk from Depot Park down the Narrow Gauge to Memorial Park. Chamber members will have an opportunity to participate on the bike trail with fun activities.

Middlesex Community College
The Chamber and Alyssa Sandoval recently met with Dean Judy Burke and discussed workforce training by industry. We have set up a preliminary date in September for the biotech industry. We also discussed improving the visibility of MCC in the business community with more networking and maybe some open houses as well as connecting students and recent graduates with area companies. MCC was also very responsive to the idea of having interested Bedford businesses set up a booth at a popular area on Campus promote their offerings to students and facility. It was thoughts each month could feature a different interested business. MCC also has meeting space available at low cost to interested businesses.

Bedford First Relaunch
With MCC joining the Chamber, this provides access to over 5,000 students to Chamber benefits including offering promotions for Chamber Members. The consensus was that it would be a good idea but with two caveats:
   * The most popular request is for Restaurants follow by personal services and retail. It was thought we would need to get a few restaurants on board to ensure the success of the program.
   * Work with merchants to ensure the promotions are both sustainable and meet business goals. For example instead of just offering a 10% discount, structure the promotion to increase average order value such as order a sandwich and a drink and get a free cookie.

Incubator Discussion
The group had a long discussion on all the economic benefits of having an incubator in Bedford. A successful incubator would create jobs, establish Bedford as a place for innovation and attract additional companies to Bedford. The group discussed what was involved in making this happen and agreed as a first step to put together a "Incubator Action Team" based upon a list of interested folks. Everyone one on the Business Development Committee team to check with their networks to identify interested people, organizations and companies.

Collaborative Zoning Analysis Process for Great Road As part of the rezoning study, the group discussed how to best figure out what types of businesses and uses would appeal to town residents. It was thought providing a survey to both town residents and employees who work in Bedford would be helpful in getting feedback and also provide an effective mechanism to engage people in to this process as well as provide some market research to potential businesses.
