The Chamber's Annual Dinner Celebration was held this past week at the Doubletree Bedford Glen Hotel. With close to 100 people in attendance, it was  a great evening to celebrate our award winners and have some fun as well.  Guest speaker Mike McAuliffe, president of Middlesex Savings Bank, held the audience captive with an interesting and entertainingdefinition of what characteristics  "Millennials" possess and how this generation will fit into the workforce in the next twenty years.

  Business Development Update
Wiggins Avenue - There has been discussion about the benefits of providing a sign to the entrance (i.e. Wiggins Business District) on Wiggins from Summer street based on a survey commissioned by Alyssa Sandovel.  Several companies have already offered to help sponsor the cost of the sign.
Crosby Center - Additional work is being proposed at Crosby Center which is owned by National Development. They would like to move forward with a select service hotel with approximately 140 rooms. Due to wetlands, they would like the hotel to be 6 stories high so they can fit in all the rooms.
Mass Innovation Night - Scheduled for April 13th at MITRE. Looking to have both the Chamber of Commerce and the town of Bedford be co-host the event.

TOWN MEETING
Zoning Changes - Chamber Involvement on Articles 14 & 15. We had a brief discussion on the best ways to move forward. It was felt the best strategy was to show how these changes would best benefit local businesses.
Four  main benefits are:
i. collaborative process to ensure it benefits residents and businesses.
ii. more attractive to local and other businesses
iii. increase jobs and roi (increase taxes from businesses offset the cost - this pays for itself).
iv. update obsolete zoning from the 1950's and 1960's. The world has changed, we need to take advantage of improved zoning that approves appearance and attracts businesses.
Crosby Drive Zoning - Article 9 - It was mentioned there has not been a lot of feedback from Town Residents at the zoning meetings.

Lunchtime Shuttle - Promotions for Riders - There was also a discussion on how to measure the results of this pilot project before starting it. For example should there be a target cost per rider and number of riders - what metrics should be used to determine if this project is successful or not.

Cultural District- There was a discussion that with The Bedford Center for the Arts transitioning, does it make sense to continue with the Cultural District process,  as there may be no one to head this effort. Alyssa Sandovel  will  create a brief description of what's needed to head up the Cultural District process which can then be circulated to see if we can find people who are interested. It was also recommend that the Chamber make sure to invite people from the Arts Community to our board meetings.
