"Bedford-First" Walkabout and Tree Lighting!!!

The first Bedford Walkabout is scheduled for Saturday December 5, 2015 in coordination with the Town's Annual Tree Lighting event. This event is being sponsored by the Bedford Recreation, Economic Development, Healthy Bedford, and the Bedford Chamber of Commerce. This event is intended to highlight Bedford Center businesses and encourage residents to walk to our local stores and restaurants. We also want to provide an opportunity to showcase Bedford's many home-based businesses as well as businesses located in other areas of Town. Promoting walking to local businesses just makes good business sense. Walk Boston notes that patrons of retail businesses who arrive by foot and bicycle in a neighborhood shopping area visit the most often and spend the most money per month.
Walking is also a practical transportation choice that holds powerful health and environmental benefits for both individuals and their communities. The potential for increased walking is enormous: one quarter of all trips in the United States are less than one mile in length, but only a quarter of these are made by walking. By championing walking as a viable alternative, we can contribute to our residents' overall health and other quality of life factors through more physical exercise. Not only that, increasing walking can help free up parking by encouraging patrons to walk (not drive) to your business and helps reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. It's a great way to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity while encouraging more patrons to visit your business.
Event Details:
Date and Time: 3:30-8 pm on Saturday, December 5
Tree Lighting is tentatively scheduled for 5:30 pm on the Town Common. Before and after the tree lighting ceremony (typically lasting no more than 30 minutes), residents and visitors will be encouraged to walk to participating Bedford Center businesses. Each participating business agrees to keep their location open for the duration of the event, and will offer an incentive for visiting their business (examples: free hot chocolate, entertainment, such as music, singing, store discount, game, or cookies etc.) Participating businesses will be promoted in an event flyer and given a special marker to indicate you are a participating business to passersby.
For those businesses that are not in the Bedford Center area or if you have a home-based business and would like to participate, there is an option to have a table at Old Town Hall. If there is enough business interest, Old Town Hall will be open to the public and will feature Bedford businesses, music, and crafts. Bedford Chamber of Commerce is organizing this event with Town Staff support.
To Participate:

Goddard School Trunk or Treat
Get your business in front of 700 Bedford Families

The Goddard School Trunk or Treat is an alternative, free Halloween Celebration for the children of the community.  It also is a fabulous way to be seen and have direct contact with hundreds of Bedford families.

Put your costume on and drive your Decorated to the Whole Foods parking lot, on Friday, October  30th 4-6 PM. Last year 1000 children come to each car to Trunk or Treat instead of going house to house to Trick or Treat. Consider joining these businesses for a couple of hours of different networking and lots of fun.

Improving the Control of your business:
Budgeting / Planning - Ensuring your numbers
align with your plans and expectations.

Many firms and organizations want improved controls. The only true control is measuring results versus expectations. Budgeting and planning at its best communicate the expectations to all and holds resources accountable for their performance, even the boss.

The proof of excellent strategy is generating achievable expectations in the current business environment. The proof of excellent management is how to hold the firm's best asset, it's people, accountable while motivating commitment and performance.

This session outlines the process and the commitment to begin the journey.
