It's Time
To Get Off The Hamster Wheel!
Just being in motion will never get you to your Big. To do that, you need to be sure you're doing the right things, in the right order, for the right reasons.
With this five-step system, you'll clarify the activities that are mission-critical to your success. You'll then be walked through a process for creating step-by-step action plans to implement those key activities.
The result? You get off the hamster wheel of motion-without-progress and get on a more direct route to more clients and more money.
Forget about being busy; start getting focused by downloading your no-charge PDF version of the Take Action Now System (tm) today. |

Greetings!
In the United States, Labor Day (which fell on September 2nd this year) traditionally is viewed as the last day of summer. That means that, for most American school children, this feels like the first real week of the new school year.
Whether you have kids of your own or not, you can probably clearly remember what it felt like to begin that new year: anticipation mixed in with some fear, mental and emotional preparation, perhaps getting rid of old clothes that no longer fit and getting new.
You have the chance to do the same type of preparing any time you start something new in your business. The problem is that too many adult entrepreneurs skip over the "get rid of stuff that no longer fits" step. This is a big mistake. If you don't clear the decks of old, no-longer-relevant, energy-sucking clutter, your effectiveness and productivity will be drastically reduced.
If you're concerned that you may be tripping yourself up instead of moving confidently down the road to success, start using the following tools to steady your progress.

Tip of the Week
Mental and physical clutter sabotage success. Get rid of them.
Easier said than done, I know. However, this is a great time to apply step #5 of my Take Action Now System (you do have your copy of it, don't you? If not, time to go visit the hamster to the left).
Step #5 is Chunk Things Down. In terms of de-cluttering, that means to tackle one shelf of the overflowing bookcase, or one corner of the buried desk. Do one manageable step each day, and you'll soon have a largely distraction-free place in which to kick business butt.

A Really Good Resource

You may be one of those people whose clutter merely sneers at your efforts to tame it. Ugly, isn't it? If you've tried to clear the decks in your office and are still struggling to carve a path from the door to your desk, it might be time to call in someone from NAPO - the National Association of Professional Organizers. A good organizer is a terrific resource. She'll come in and be able to see the forest for the trees. She'll challenge you to identify what's really important to keep in your work space and what is simply familiar clutter. Best of all, she'll help you streamline your work space and your work processes, so that all your future activities are done more easily and efficiently. One of my private clients took a break from our coaching sessions while she worked with an organizer. When we started up again, I could tell how much lighter and more focused she felt, because her work space supported her efforts rather than hindered them. She and I were even more productive once her office - and her mind - were de-cluttered. Isn't it time you did the same for yourself?

How's This for Success?

While it's easier to see physical clutter, mental distractions can mess you up just as badly. And though it's easier to see a clean desk than a clean mind, the benefits are huge either way.
Case in point: The sliding doors on my mini-van were not working. They decided to get stuck in the open position, which made driving really tricky. I was so not looking forward to somehow getting the vehicle to a mechanic and spending hundreds of dollars to get the doors fixed. However, there was nothing to be done right at that moment (this happened late at night), so I opted to try settling myself down by playing a Lumosity game called Train Of Thought.
This is a game whose intent is to sharpen your focus and requires you to pay very close attention to how the little trains are traveling along their tracks. As you might guess, my focus was in the toilet, and my scores were abysmal. I was so distracted by the thought of my car that I was unable to concentrate even on something fun.
This story has a happy ending. Joseph, my hubby, figured out how to fix the doors himself - Woohoo!! The interesting thing is that, when I took a break later that day and played another game of Train Of Thought, my score was way higher than it had been the previous day: a trivial yet telling example of how ridding yourself of distractions can dramatically improve your performance.

Thanks to my friend Flickr.
Here are this week's heroes who graciously allowed me to use their images, posted in the Creative Commons area of Flickr, in this issue of Stepping Into Big:
