Put an Illinois Library Luminary on Your Holiday Giving List!
The ILA Endowment is one of the best ways to support a strong future for Illinois libraries, and a great way to contribute is to honor a library leader. The forty-three current honorees represent the best and brightest in our profession. Why not make an additional contribution to honor any one of them that touched you or your career? Each luminary on the list remains eligible for additional contributions, with the highest total to date just under $12,000 for Peggy Sullivan. Review the Luminary list and make your selection today. Click here to donate online!
A Valued Partnership: US DoD-MWR Libraries and iREAD
2015--a great year of summer reading on military bases worldwide!

Words can't express what this amazing partnership with the libraries of the U.S. Department of Defense Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (DoD-MWR) has meant not only to Illinois libraries, but to the thousands of kids and families who participate worldwide. From Edwards Air Force Base in southern California to Army Garrison Yongsan in South Korea, from Camp Lejeune in North Carolina to Navy Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickham in Hawaii, the Read to the Rhythm theme led to drum safaris, performances by the Marine Aircraft Wing Band and the USMC Jazz Band, and lots of reading about music, musicians, and all things rhythm. These numbers speak for themselves!

Want to Know How Your Library Stacks Up?
Benchmarking Study Available on ILA Website
In a recent survey of 24 libraries in several northern Illinois counties, facility upgrades are the number one ranked spending area. And average expenditures per capita were $118.51. Nearly half of the libraries reported carrying debt with average indebtedness of nearly $5 million (this figure includes data from 63 libraries in the public record). These and other points of comparison might interest your board and your administration as they review and plan for the future. The survey was conducted and results compiled by Lauterbach & Amen, LLP; it can be accessed in the Initiatives section of the ILA website by clicking here.
Reaching Forward 2016 Performers' Showcase

The 27th Annual Reaching Forward Conference will be held May 6, 2016, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont.

The conference will feature a Performers' Showcase, a free opportunity for youth and adult performers to briefly showcase their talents to an audience of library programmers. Do you know a great performer that we should highlight? Please encourage your favorite performers and presenters to apply or send their contact information to Mary Beth Fuller.

For more information about the Performers' Showcase, visit the conference website.
