Contact Senator Kirk Now!
History is about to be made and Illinois' Senator Mark Kirk's vote may literally make the difference between reforming the USA PATRIOT Act for the first time in 14 years . . .  or not.  Make sure he hears from you today to protect libraries and civil liberties.

The Senate will vote Sunday (that's not a typo) before parts of the USA PATRIOT Act expire at midnight.  Please click here to send Sen. Kirk a clear and urgent message:  PASS the USA FREEDOM Act without any weakening amendments AND vote NO on any extension of the USA PATRIOT Act.

That's it . . . and this is it.  Even if you've written or called before; contact Kirk's Washington, D.C. office:  Phone:  (202) 224-2854; Fax:  (202) 228-4611.
Another Sunday Deadline:  Showdown in the Illinois General Assembly
While the Illinois General Assembly is scheduled to adjourn by this Sunday, it is widely expected that the session will not conclude and we will go into overtime.  Gov. Bruce Rauner has demanded passage of his "Turnaround Agenda" before he will negotiate on the budget (see May 25, 2015 ILA E-Newsletter for details).  The Democratic legislative leaders have refused to support any of the Governor's agenda and demanded that the budget be separately negotiated.  As usual, ILA will continue to monitor these developments and issue a Call to Action, if appropriate.
Poster Sessions at 2015 Illinois Library Conference

Share your best ideas and work with the Illinois library community by presenting a poster session at the 2015 Illinois Library Conference.  Poster sessions will be held October 22-24 in the exhibit hall.  A designated session will be held for posters on ILEADU projects on Saturday, October 24.

The poster session committee encourages submissions from all types of libraries and on any topic relevant to librarianship.  Submissions may include a description of an innovative library program; an analysis of a solution to a problem; a report of a research study; or any other presentation that would benefit the larger library community.  The poster session committee will consider the quality of the research, program, or project as presented in the abstract in making its decisions

Poster session participants place materials such as pictures, data, graphs, diagrams and narrative text on boards that are 4 x 8 feet.  A table will be available for each poster session.  During their assigned hour time periods, participants informally discuss their presentations with conference attendees.

The deadline for submitting an application is July 1, 2015.  Applicants will be notified of the committee's decision by the end of July.

Proofread your application carefully as it will appear in the conference schedule exactly as submitted.

Those presenting poster sessions must either register for the conference or purchase a $15 exhibits-only pass.

Only library staff, library trustees, MLS students, etc. may apply.  Vendors and others who offer services for a fee should consider a booth in the exhibit hall.
