Traveling Exhibition Opportunity for Libraries

Water: Resource for Life is a new Smithsonian exhibition that will tour six Illinois communities in 2016-2017 as part of the Illinois Humanities Council's (IHC) Museums on Main Street program. The exhibition will encourage people throughout the state to consider and discuss the importance of water in the human experience--past, present, and future. Apply by April 17, 2015 to bring the exhibition to your town!

Room rates include continental breakfast, complimentary wi-hi, and wine hour Monday-Friday 5:00-6:00 p.m. When making reservations, please mention Illinois Library Association or provide the block code ILA515. The cut-off date for hotel reservations is this Friday --- March 20, 2015. At that time any unsold rooms will be released to the hotel for general sale. Reservations received after the cut-off date will be on a space-and-rate available basis only.

Legislative Update | Good news. One of ILA legislative initiatives is advancing well in the 2015 Spring Session of the Illinois General Assembly.
House (HB) 200 passed by a vote of 113 to 0 on Thursday, 12 March 2015. The bill goes to the Illinois Senate for action. The bill would allow
public libraries to apply for state grants to purchase life saving automated external defibrillator (AED) devices.

Argentinian artist Raul Lemesoff builds book tanks--roving libraries on wheels capable of carrying 900 free books! This one was commissioned by 7UP and began with a stripped down 1979 Ford Falcon. It can be seen driving around the streets of Argentina, giving away books to anyone who promises to read them.
