ILA to Testify at Budget Hearing
| The Appropriations General Services Committee of the Illinois House of Representatives is holding a budget hearing on March 26 and ILA will urge full funding of Illinois State Library Library Grant programs, including area and per capita grants. The total amount of the 2015 request is $47,950,600. ILA members and library supporters are encouraged to contact their elected representatives to stress the importance of these grants in making library services available to their constituents. State grants are particularly important in funding resource sharing and delivery and to leverage both local and federal funding. Please click here for the full text of ILA's testimony. |
Oppose Changes to IMRF |
Despite widespread and broad-based opposition, House Bill (HB) 3898, which eliminates the 13th payment under Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), advanced out of committee on March 25 and moves to consideration by Illinois House of Representatives. ILA encourages the Illinois library community to express their opposition to HB 3898 and will continue to monitor and inform about future developments.

Soon-to-be-Famous Finalists Selected |
Three finalists have been selected from the 103 self-published authors nominated by Illinois librarians for the Soon-to-be-Famous Illinois Author Project. Finalists are:
| Rick Polad, nominated by the Phillips Library at Aurora University for Change of Address
|
| Mary Hutchings Reed, nominated by the Mount Prospect Public Library for Warming Up |
| Joanne Zienty, nominated by the Forest School LIbrary in Des Plaines for The Things We Save |
The purpose of this project is twofold: to give talented authors exposure and spotlight the importance of libraries in both the creation and reading of literature. As Forbes contributor David Vinjanmuri says in his video about the project, "Libraries are the keystone species in the reading ecosystem!"
Vinjamuri will present the award at a media reception on April 16 at RAILS Administrative Headquarters in Burr Ridge. For a complete list of authors and more information, see the project website.
