Wednesday, December 4

6:00-7:45 p.m., Main Library

This session, geared to the novice grantseeker, will address budgeting questions such as:

  • What is included under the "personnel" section and how to calculate it?
  • What level of detail do you need to include for non-personnel expenses?
  • How do you determine reasonable costs?
  • What types of expenses are considered "overhead"?
  • What other financial documents will funders want to see?

Foundation Center staff member Sarah Jo Neubauer will speak on how to set up a budget for any grant proposal. This is a great workshop for a beginner or anyone who feels they can always  learn from the experts.

Mostly Literary Fiction - The Hare with Amber Eyes: A Hidden Inheritance by Edmund de Waal
Monday, December 9,

6:30 p.m., Main Library

Thursday, December 12, 12:00 noon, Mocama's Delia & Ice Cream Shop (925 B Street)

264 Japanese wood and ivory carvings, none of them larger than a matchbox: renowned ceramicist Edmund de Waal was entranced when he first encountered the collection in his great-uncle Iggie's Tokyo apartment. When he later inherited the netsuke, they unlocked a far more dramatic story than he could ever have imagined. From a burgeoning empire in Odessa to fin de siècle Paris, from occupied Vienna to postwar Tokyo, de Waal traces the netsuke's journey through generations of his remarkable family against the backdrop of a tumultuous century.
