Did you know that when children don't read over the summer months when school is out, they can lose up to two full grade levels of reading comprehension? Prevent the "summer slide" by signing up for Hayward Public Library's Summer Reading Challenge. It's easy and fun for all ages!

Summer Reading in Three Easy Steps:

1. Sign up in the Library or online.

2. Read your favorite books and magazines (younger children may be read to by a parent or older sibling)

3. Record your hours to win fabulous prizes!

Book Buddies
A reading program that pairs teen volunteers with struggling readers entering grades 1-3. Book Buddies meet once a week for 45 minutes to read together and do literacy activities.
