Mystery Novels by Women - Blind Goddess by Anne Holt
Tuesday, July 211:30 a.m., Le Paradis Bakery (D St. & Mission) Anne Holt, one of the most successful crime novelists in Norway, introduces the world of brilliant, arrogant police detective Hanne Wilhelmsen and her admiring colleagues: a world where the goddess of justice is blindfolded and it is their job to do her bidding. A drug-related murder unravels a corrupt network in the police and justice departments, with an ulterior motive to finance Norwegian secret service operations. Just as tough and smart as Lisbeth Salander, Hanne plays by the rules, for the most part, and still gets the bad guy.

Margaret Mayfield is considered nearly an old maid at twenty-seven when she marries a naval officer in post-Civil Ward Missouri. He's a brilliant astronomer, but his devotion to sceince leaves no room for anything, or anyone, else. Amid personal tragedies and national crises, Margaret stands by her husband. But as World War II approaches, his obsessions take a different, darker turn, and Margaret is forced to reconsider the life she has so carefully constructed.
