Wrap-Up Event

11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. - Main Library

The Seed Read Wrap-Up Event concludes the 4-week-long Book-to-Action program that celebrated healthy living and seed saving. Seed Read Kickoff  participants will be able to pick-up their seeds left for germination on the library rooftop. Information on how to transplant germinated seeds into home gardens will be available. Alameda Master Gardeners will also be hosting a Plant Doctor booth and will be answering any of your gardening questions. 

 

Weekes Branch germinated seeds can be picked up to be taken home for planting on May 11, from 1 p.m.-3 p.m.

Get the support you need to help you stay on track with your writing, whether it's fiction, non-fiction, or poetry. Bring 5-10 copies of the piece you wish to share with the group.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Hayward Public Library.

Knitting Knitting Circle

Welcome knitters, both beginners and experts, to the Hayward Library Knitting Circle!  The Circle will be meeting only on the 2nd Wednesday every month and will now include other fiber crafts including crochet, needlepoint, tatting, etc. As usual, we ask new members to bring size 10 knitting needles and yarn of their choice, but we also have extra supplies available if needed.  Bring your project and knit (or tat or crochet) along with us!

Become a literacy tutor for Literacy Plus - You'll be amazed at what you learn! Tutor an adult in reading, writing and critical thinking skills. We are a learner-centered program that serves adults in Hayward, offering individualized learning plans for our learners and tutors. Break the cycle of illiteracy and promote education and a lifelong love of learning.

 

The Hayward Public Library Literacy Plus program helps adults and their families improve their reading and writing skills so they are able to achieve their educational, career, and personal goals.

 

The next Tutor Orientations will be on May 7 & 13. Tutor Training will begin on Friday, May 17. All sessions are required and participants must register in advance. Please call 510-881-7910 for more  information.

Registration in person is required. Registration begins 30 minutes before the first session. Space is limited. Consultation is assigned by lottery. SOSSenior Outreach Services

The Senior Outreach Services program delivers library materials to homebound seniors either in their homes or at senior living/care facilities in the City of Hayward. Materials are delivered to the individual by a volunteer and then collected one or two weeks later and returned to the Library. If you would like to receive these services or to become an SOS Volunteer please contact Trudy Toll at 510-881-7974 or email her at trudy.toll@hayward-ca.gov.

In Helen MacInnes's classic spy novel, Richard and Frances Myles are preparing for their annual European summer vacation in 1939 when they are visited at their Oxford college by old friend Peter Galt, who has a seemingly simple job for them. But in the heightened atmosphere of  pre-war Europe, nobody is above suspicion. In fact, the husband and wife are being carefully monitored by shadowy figures.

After losing his twin to a drowning accident and his wife to divorce, Zeke Cooper leaves his mother and two daughters behind in Tennessee and travels to Virginia horse country, where he considers his  responsibility to repair his fractured family.

Save the date: Sat., June 15 @ 1 p.m. Author Amy Franklin-Willis will appear at the library for a special event with musician Andrew Castro, who will perform original songs inspired by the novel and recorded on CD.
