Ex-Im Reauthorization Needs Your Support! Pick up the Phone.

There are 19 days until the authorization of the Export-Import Bank expires, unless Congress acts. It is becoming more and more likely that Congress will choose not to act, letting the bank's charter expire and with it the aid that many Alabama companies' exports depend on.

Now more than ever, the Alabama delegation needs to hear from the Alabama businesses that directly benefit from the bank's support. They must hear that a vote against the Ex-Im Bank is a vote against Alabama business, it is a vote against the jobs you provide, it is a vote against the United States, and it is a vote to send Alabama jobs overseas.

It is critical that you take two minutes right now to call your senators and your representatives and urge them to support long-term reauthorization of the Ex-Im Bank.

Simply call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to speak to your Member of Congress.

Sample Call Script:
As a constituent from <your town>, I am calling to ask that Senator/Representative <name> support the reauthorization of the Ex-Im Bank.

Additional Talking Points:
  • The Export-Import Bank of the United States is an independent, self-sustaining agency with an 80-year record of supporting U.S. jobs by financing the export of American goods and services.
  • Ex-Im Bank supports Alabama jobs
    • 5,073 Alabama jobs are supported by the bank, thousands more indirectly.
    • Hundreds of Alabama companies are indirectly supported through first, second and third-tier suppliers.
  • Ex-Im Bank helps Alabama exporters compete
    • Alabama exports have increased from $15.5 billion in 2010 to $19.5 billion in 2014 - a 26 percent increase over the last five years.
    • Other countries provide substantial support for their exporters - there are at least 59 foreign export credit agencies around the world. These agencies will continue to operate regardless of the Export-Import Bank of the United States.
    • Unilateral disarmament will hurt both Alabama and U.S. Exports and will kill Alabama and American jobs.
  • Ex-Im Bank supports Alabama's OEM supply chain
    • Large manufacturers support hundreds of thousands of jobs across the United States through the purchase of goods and services from small- and medium-size businesses. Without the Ex-Im Bank, theses lost sales, in turn, adversely affect entire supply chains - from the smallest to largest suppliers, indirect "invisible exporters" that are working hard to provide their products to Original Equipment Manufacturers.
  • Other Ex-Im contributions to Alabama exports
    • Provides an essential backstop for commercial banks to confirm (guarantee) commercial trade letters of credit in favor of Alabama exporters.
    • Offers a unique service for bid and performance bonding for small business exporters.
    • Supports indirect export sales by hundreds of Alabama small business suppliers.
    • Supports significant volumes of shipments through the Port of Mobile.
