Out of your comfort zone

It was the SPAA Christmas Lunch last week at Club 29 Glasgow. A great time was had by all (OK, maybe some more than others)! We had a couple of acts  - Paul McDougall from Turkish Airlines did a stand up comedy routine and Elliot Bibby (son of award-winning home worker, Fiona) displayed his amazing skills as a Magician. Both did extremely well, but it really got me thinking about the "comfort zone" that most of us inhabit. What drives people to get out of their comfort zone and become a performer - or for that matter, a President?

If you had asked me a few years ago if I wanted to, or had even thought about becoming SPAA President, you would have received a resounding "No way" response. The very thought would have filled me with dread, mainly because I had an abject fear of public speaking. Not totally unfounded I might add when you consider that the entire Presidency is judged on how well you can recite Rabbie Burns' 'Address to the Haggis' in front of about 300 people!
