Last week, I commented on the issue of airport retailers and their practice of requesting Boarding Passes to support airside purchases, and I asked the question, 'why?'. To be strictly fair and transparent - two things we in the SPAA always try to be - our colleagues at Glasgow Airport responded quickly with a detailed - and reassuring - Q&A briefing (click here to view) laying out the fairly complex tax and duty regime with which airport retailers have to comply. In brief, it clarifies why - certainly on 'duty-free' sales - the shops must view Boarding Passes, and how they go about ensuring consumers are properly compensated for any tax saved by the retailer. We're grateful to the team at GLA for their prompt and reassuring follow-up, and happy to pass the full briefing on to Members.
