President's Column

It'll not have escaped anyone's notice that this has been the week when many a witty line from Robert Burns is on the airwaves and in the papers, and that's as it should be. He was a wise and couthy man, and this is a historic year for Scotland.

Our own Spring Seminar in April will focus on the coming Independence Referendum and its likely impact on the travel business, and we'll have as many shades of opinion represented as we can on the day - MSP's from both the 'yes' and 'no' camps. This week, there's been coverage in TTG, and needless to say the SPAA was one of the 'go to' organisations for informed comment. Have a look at it, for the varied and coherent views of our own Ken McLeod and Sandy Macpherson.

One of my own favourite Burns poems is 'A man's a man, for a' that', and there's a perfect wish expressed in the last verse (you can read it below in this edition) - for 'sense'. Of course, the great Man means 'common sense'. We need that, this year, more than ever.
