State CE Requirements for renewal of

Radiology Operator/Supervisor Permits

As a result of legislation passed several years ago to generally improve radiation safety the Radiological Health Branch adopted regulations last year that established continuing education requirements for all users. We had mistakenly thought that radiologists and radiation oncologists who are permit holders would be exempt from documenting those hours based upon their specialty board certification. We may have advised some members to that effect and apologize for the confusion. Radiologists are exempt from having 4 of the 10 CE units required to be in fluoroscopy, but they must show 10 CE units every two years and those renewing a permit that extends into 2016 will see that requirement.

New CE requirements effective 2016-

Certified Supervisors and Operators (California licensed physicians and

surgeons, podiatrists, or chiropractors) need to earn 10 approved CE credits in

the 2 years prior to the expiration of their certificate/permit. If a Licentiate holds a

fluoroscopy supervisor and operator permit, 4 of the 10 CE credits shall be in

radiation safety for the clinical uses of fluoroscopy.

There are two criteria to qualify the CE units; (1) subjects related to application of X-ray to the human body; and (2) approved by one of the listed entities, which includes Medical Board of Ca. so any CME accredited content.

RADPAC's 3rd Annual March Madness Campaign to coincide

with the widely popular March Madness College Basketball Tournament

has Kicked Off.

RADPAC will donate $500 to the chapter that wins its division. RADPAC asks that the $500 be used for the chapter to help pay for a resident to attend the AMCLC.

Here are the details:

Each Chapter Division will have its own RADPAC Tournament Challenge based on which chapter gets the most contributors. Click here to view what division your state is in.

Period 1: March 1-March 17. The top 8 chapters in new contributors from March 1st to March 17th will advance.

Period 2: March 11-17. The top 4 chapters in total points on the 17th will advance.

Period 3: March 18-24. The top 2 chapters in total points on the 24th will advance.

The chapter with the most total points on March 31st wins their Division and will receive $500 from RADPAC.

How the points are tabulated:

For the first period, the chapter will earn 1 point for each new contributor.

For period 2-3, the points from the previous week will carry over and new contributors each week will earn the chapter 2 points.

Contributors to RADPAC prior to March 1 will not be counted for the purposes of this tournament competition. If you contributed prior to March 1st RADPAC asks that you recruit colleagues in your state.

RADPAC is one of the largest health care PACs in the nation and is the only PAC that covers the full spectrum of imaging healthcare providers in the profession. To learn more about the efforts of RADPAC, please go to www.radpac.org

Also - please note the upcoming RADPAC events at the 2015 Annual Meeting - if you donate in March your contribution counts for both March Madness and the Annual Meeting:

As in recent years, we will have the $1,000 eligibility requirement to attend our RADPAC Gala event scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Sequoia's Restaurant located on the Georgetown Waterfront (http://arkrestaurants.com/sequoia/). Transportation will be provided. The deadline for attendees to make their contribution/pledge will be Friday, April 24 to myself at lhylden@acr.org. Again, any contributions made in March will count for both March Madness and the Annual Meeting.

We are asking that anyone attending the RADPAC Reception scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2015, be a contributor (regardless of amount). In previous years, this reception took place on Tuesday and was open to all meeting attendees so this year's format is a slight change.

If you have any questions, please contact Ted Burnes, Director of RADPAC & Political Education, tburnes@acr.org or myself, Laura Henry, at lhylden@acr.org.
