MICRA Initiative Update

Absentee ballots in mailboxes this week. Don't delay turning them in.

The California Radiological Society is strongly opposed to Prop. 46, the ballot measure backed by trial lawyers that will increase health care costs for all Californians by making it easier for lawyers to file medical malpractice lawsuits. Your personal, private prescription drug information also could be made vulnerable to hackers due to another provision in Prop. 46.

We've joined with hundreds of groups representing doctors, nurses, dentists, hospitals, community clinics and health centers, business and taxpayer groups, labor unions, local governments, and community groups to defeat this measure on November 4.

We are now entering "election month" in California. Absentee ballots are being mailed by County Voter Registrars this week. If you vote absentee, please don't wait until the last minute to vote No on 46. Mail in your ballot as soon as possible.

If you are not registered to vote, there's still time. It's easy and can be done online at the Secretary of State's website. Go to this page here. October 20 is the deadline, but don't delay, do it today.

Countdown to Election Day: Four Weeks!

Here are other ways you can help defeat Prop. 46:

Application of New Fluoroscopy CE Requirements to Radiologists

We have heard from several members regarding the notice from the California Radiologic Health Branch indicating CE requirements for Fluoroscopy Supervisor and Operator Certificates/Permits beginning July 2016. It indicates a requirement for ten CE units of which four must be in radiation safety will be required to renew the permit.

This requirement does not apply to the Radiology Supervisor and Operator Certificate for Radiologists/Radiation oncologists. It applies to the California Licentiate Supervisor and Operator permit that non- radiologist physicians or others would obtain. As a consequence there is no new CE requirement for radiologists. This RHB change was driven by legislation enacted several years ago to enhance the training and education of users of ionizing radiation and resulted in multiple regulatory changes.
