It was with great pleasure and joy that we welcomed ten alumnae to the Betty K. Marler Alumni function on July 22nd 2015 in celebration of their successful transitions back into the community. These ambitious young ladies arrived from all over the metropolitan area to take advantage of the opportunity to reconnect with their peers and staff in a pro-social environment. Alumnae students expressed genuine excitement as they recognized and greeted one another and staff by exchanging handshakes, hugs and heartfelt stories.
During the evening, the alumnae shared about their successes in multiple areas of their lives, including independent living, jobs, school, and family relationships. Many of the women expressed that their time and experience in the Betty Marler program prepared them for the many successes as well as challenges they are now encountering. This year we learned that three of the returning young women had been employed to management positions and were thriving in the workplace.
Alumnae reflected on how their time at BMYSC helped them to mature, grow, improve self-esteem, and overcome obstacles. They expressed many heartfelt thanks for the support and guidance provided to them while at the Betty K. Marler Center. As the evening came to a close, alumnae students gathered together for a group picture to mark the occasion, and plans were made to attend next year's Alumni Dinner. Two of the young women that will be leaving the state promised that they would return just for the next Alumni Dinner. We look forward to hearing about their transition to a new and exciting life upon their return to next year's Alumni Dinner.
