Trending SD Tour...
Trolly & Taps

San Diego has so much to offer, from its many historical landmarks to the newer attractions on the block. This custom tour, designed by our own Jackie Fennelly, taps into San Diego's rich history and its bustling beer scene. Via our trademark vintage-style trolleys, you'll journey through some of San Diego's most culturally significant neighborhoods such as the Gaslamp District and Little Italy. Along the way, you'll get a taste (literally) of what San Diego is increasingly becoming known for - its craft beer! Over the last several years, San Diego has exploded onto the local brewing map and is now known as the beer capital of the world. In the Gaslamp District, you'll sample beers from Stone Tap Room and Mission Brewery, both located just next to Petco Park, and in Little Italy you will stop by Ballast Point Tasting Room. This tour is a great way to see downtown San Diego as well as relax while you sip on some of the city's very own beers. Cheers!

Those Summer Nights...
LA Takes Summer Seriously

So-Cal summers are always so fresh and so clean. Here's a look at how LA has stepped up its summer game.

Popular Hollywood club/lounge Warwick wants to keep your beach day going well into the wee hours. The venue's recent reinvention as the "SS Warwick" features light-colored sofas, patio umbrellas, nautical accents, beach-inspired cocktails served in pineapples, and ice cream cart girls clad in vintage swimwear. It's all the fun of the beach without the sunburn - sign us up!

As for summer-friendly restaurants, we're all about Littlefork. This Hollywood hidden gem has a stellar seasonal menu that includes a delicious duck liver plate along with the best selection of oysters. Over in Manhattan Beach, Fishing With Dynamite is also sporting a full selection of oysters at its raw bar.

Summer Lovin'...

matt presSummer is a great time in Southern California! The days are sunny and long, and for the most part, life slows down and lets you enjoy it. Summer used to be a slow time in the DMC world, but now it seems that just as much corporate business comes to our door in this season as any other. Whether you visit SoCal with a business group or your family and friends in the coming months, there is no shortage of fun activity options. San Diego is tops for the Del Mar County Fair, Los Angeles has some amazing outdoor concert series, and Orange County's art scene is thriving. Here's hoping you get outside and have some fun in the sun!

In the "News"...

Here's the latest report on some of the best new or newly renovated venues, properties and activities our destination has to offer!

San Diego:
Florent Restaurant & Lounge is a new split-level venue, located in the Gaslamp DIstrict's original City Hall building, that celebrates the city's immense culinary and nightlife scenes. The space reflects an approachable elegance with a playful interior that lends itself to the rich history of the Old City Hall building. With unexpected touches of organic and demure glamour, this venue invites sultry, high energy San Diego nights. Jackie, Katie, Rachel and Lindsay recently attended the industry opening. "The look and feel of the venue was great, and we are happy to know their group events will be handled by someone we have a great relationship with," said Director of Marketing Lindsay White.

Florent embraces its historical downtown location.

Orange County:
Artemis Defense Institute is not your average recreational gun-shooting range. The new facility's virtual simulators are used to train professional military and peace officers. Artemis offers group training and teambuilding classes to emphasize gun safety in the context of self-defense and to promote team bonding. Every aspect of the classes are virtual and no real bullets are used. A few members of the team, (Romy, Paige, Rachel and Jackie) recently visited the facility and enjoyed their time. Sales Manager Rachel Horgan said, "Having been to a gun range before, I didn't expect Artemis to be much different. Boy was I wrong (which happens rarely). It was interesting to see that my gut reaction was to kneel down when there was a shooter to my right. The technology they have completely makes you feel like you are in a real-life situation and it's useful self-defense training for everyone."

Long Beach:
Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center has been home to the popular TED Conference for the past five years, and is giving the Los Angeles Convention Center a run for its money. According to BizBash magazine, the center recently invested $40 million in renovations with the "goal of creating an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and community."  On a recent site visit, our L.A. team raved about the improvements. Our GM Danny Fisk said the venue has "totally cool spaces that you don't see often at other venues," while Sales Manager Laura Stomber said "it's definitely a great renovation; it doesn't actually feel like you are
in a convention center!"

Los Angeles:

Gracias Madre is a plant-based Mexican eatery that just opened in West Hollywood earlier this year. Expanding from its flagship San Francisco location, the venue features the same team behind the wildly popular and wildly healthy Cafe Gratitude empire. Besides their earth-conscious approach, we are loving their vaulted ceilings, clean decor, and especially their 100+ capacity patio!

Getting Fit with TET...

Fantastic year-round weather plus a health-conscious mentality combine to create Southern California's reputation for physical fitness.  Workout Roulette is a unique and fun exercise activity that was custom-designed by The Event Team for participants who want to try a few different workout trends in the comfort of one class. Within the allotted hour, your certified instructor will give a brief educational overview of three types of popular exercises before leading approximately 15 minute workouts in each style. As participants transition from one style to the other, they will be able to learn both the physical and mental benefits of various types of exercises and discover many of the different ways you can have fun while burning calories!

Winning!

Whether it's personal or professional, the "super people" of The Event Team are always striving to set and accomplish big goals. We know winning isn't everything, but it definitely feels great to see hard work pay off. Here are a few recent examples of our winning spirit!

Laura Stomber Wins Crossfit Competition
L.A. Sales Manager Laura, who started training at Crossfit Hollywood in January of 2013, recently competed with Cave Crossfit in the intermediate category at the Weekend Warrior Rumble held in Ventura, CA. There were three workouts and she happened to PR (personal record) in all of the workouts and win in her division. We asked Laura:

How do the lessons you learn from Crossfit translate to your daily life and career?
"Crossfit has taught me a lot, mostly to always believe in myself and not let anything stop me. It pushes me to be my best which translates into everything. I have a new found confidence and I am not afraid to go after whatever I want to achieve - even if it is new and something I have never done before, which I think translated into my career as well. I am not afraid to talk to a new person, or bid on a program that may look intimidating. It also has showed me how to have true dedication to something as well as taught me overall to break through barriers and to have no limits on what I can do."

Lindsay White Wins National Songwriting Contest
Director of Marketing Lindsay recently traveled to Kerrville, Texas with her music duo The Lovebirds to compete in Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk Songwriting Contest. Out of 800 entries, 32 finalists were chosen to compete and 6 winning acts were selected. Lindsay's songs "Boat Train" and "Crimson Love" were picked as winners. Past finalists of this prestigious competition include names like Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett and more. We asked Lindsay:

How do you apply this award to your career with The Event Team?
Whether I'm at the office or on stage, I tackle projects with the same ambition. Being a working songwriter/performer is all about being creative, personable, proactive, and finding ways to stand out above the competition. Marketing for a corporate event planning company requires the exact same skill set. I'm so lucky and grateful to be able to hone these skills in unique ways...I think it gives The Event Team a competitive edge.

Romy Linde & Jenn Dotson Win Bid for Orange County Program
The Event Team's winning attitude carries over into the office too! Director of Sales Romy and Operations Manager Jenn recently worked together on a big piece of business for this year in Orange County. The client already had an idea for their corporate event decor theme and they wanted a DMC partner to carry out their vision. We asked Jenn for her thoughts on the winning proposal:

How did you prepare for this proposal? Why do you think the client picked The Event Team over the competition?
"Going in, we knew we were competing with another destination management company, so we made sure that when we visited their office, we walked away with a clear insight of what they were looking for. I believe we were chosen because we listened to the needs of the group and based our proposal on them accordingly."
