Employee of the Quarter

Reba Spencer:

This is not Reba's first time earning this award, and for good reason! Her professionalism, versatility and experience make her one of our go-to staff members every year! Reba worked on several programs with us this quarter, and as usual, she knocked it out of the park. From teambuilding events to offsites dinners to tours, we always know our clients are in great hands with Reba. She is a wonderful extension and representation of The Event Team! Congratulations, Reba! We appreciate you so much!

Vendor of the Quarter
La Costa Limousine:
Merry and the team at La Costa Limousine have pulled through for The Event Team time and again. We are so confident in their high level of service to our clients and so appreciative of their willingness to go the extra mile for The Event Team. Everything from their sales team to their drivers to their fleet are professional and reliable, making it a breeze to work together on programs. Congratulations and thank you for your partnership, La Costa Limo!

Falling Foward!
Plans for 4th Quarter and 2014

As we mentioned in our Summer Recap, our recent retreat included goal-oriented meetings where we discussed our plan for the following quarter and new year. Among these goals:

Los Angeles:
Danny and Dan have been working wonders in Los Angeles, selling and operating huge shuttle programs, offsite events and tours in the area. With the renovation of Downtown, LA is making a huge comeback in the hospitality industry, and we are gearing up to have another big year there by hiring even more full time staff! We have also been working closely with the city's convention and visitors bureau to assist them in "selling" LA to potential clients! We look forward to making big waves in this SoCal region!
A recent event set-up at Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles.

Orange County:
Following the model we've used for Los Angeles, The Event Team is also looking to expand our Orange County office, hiring more full time staff and securing membership and representation within multiple convention and visitors bureaus in the region. The Orange County hospitality industry is interesting in its diverse business and resort demographics, and we are confident our knowledge and expertise in both areas will come in handy when helping clients from Anaheim to Laguna Beach to Dana Point and more!
Jessica and Paige are "all-ears" setting up our latest event in Orange County at Disney's California Adventure.

San Diego:
Thanks to extensive research from Jackie Fennelly, the newest full time team member at our flagship location, we are rapidly expanding our arsenal of event and activity options. Working closely with our hotel partners, it is our goal to offer not only the standard San Diego "staples" but also to provide unique and new experiences to our clients as soon as they hit the scene! We have our finger on the pulse of the newest venue openings and renovations (check out downtown's Bang Bang, Point Loma's new Stone Brewery location, and expansions to the Wave House in Mission Beach). We also offer cool new activities for clients (such as perfume-making in La Jolla for high-end guests or pub trivia teambuilding challenges for clients of a casual caliber.)

Big changes in store at WaveHouse!

Ready to Fall...

3 Quarters down...1 to go!

matt pres

This year has flown by and we are already thinking about 2014. There are so many reasons to be grateful for what we have already accomplished. We have put together an incredible team, proving "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts."  We are expanding in Los Angeles and we are looking forward to the return of Romy Linde (Mom) who will add her expertise and energy to our office.

I am also very happy that Paige, BIll and I passed the DMCP (Destination Management Certified Professional) test. We sometimes think we are making it up as we go along but it's nice to know we are not alone; there are people in this industry who really care and they have put in writing the best practices for DMC's.

Have a happy fall! Until next time,

Summer Recap...

The days of slowed-down summer business are long gone! This summer, we operated huge events, from block parties adjacent to PetCo Park and receptions on the flight deck of the USS Midway in San Diego, to large transportation shuttles and awards galas out of the Los Angeles Convention Center. Our sales and operations teams were busy pulling permits, booking venues, working with vendors and doing everything in their power to show clients "The Event Team Difference." The result was a busy, yet successful summer!
Block Party in San Diego's East Village

With no shortage of work here in the office, this summer provided an excellent opportunity for our young talent to shine. Jessica Ingalls was promoted from Operations Assistant to Operations Manager and is off to the races, running her own programs with great confidence and execution. On the sales side, Rachel Horgan was also promoted from assistant to Sales Manager, kicking it into high gear in order to handle a double workload in the wake of Senior Sales Manager Romy Linde's maternity leave. Rachel's hard work paid off, as she was recently selected as an Honorable Mention in San Diego Business Journal's "Emerging Generation Awards."
Rachel pretending to "drown her sorrows." Don't worry, Horgan! Honorable Mention is still something to be proud of!

Not to be outdone, the executive team (Matt Robbins, Bill Yahres, and Paige Weeber) celebrated their own personal achievements this summer. All three studied like college kids to prepare for their DMCP certification examination in Las Vegas, and their hard work paid off! They all passed with flying colors. (Whew. It would have been awkward if one of them didn't pass, right?) They join National Sales Manager Dick Burson, making a total of 4 DMC-certified staff for The Event Team. Congrats on their great accomplishments!
Our newly DMCP-certified Executive Team!

To celebrate our many successful programs and office-wide achievements, Matt was kind enough to treat us to a little working stay-cation at Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego. Here, we met to discuss goals for the rest of the year, going into 2014, and we also managed to have a little fun relaxing by the pool. Thanks to Matt for always making sure to reward his team!
"Cheers" to a successful summer!

Fat-Off Results
TET Works Together on Fitness Goals

You may remember from last quarter's newsletter that the team participated in a company-wide "Fat off" with help from our neighbors at The Perfect Workout in Mission Valley. We measured weight, as well as body fat percentage, muscle percentage, BMI, V-fat, and our "fitness age".

Our combined weight loss goal was 97 lbs. While we fell short of that goal, several of us met our individual weight loss goals (congrats Jackie, Matt and Danny!) and others made great improvements in BMI reduction, Fat Loss and Muscle gained (congrats Lindsay, Katie, Jackie and Matt!). We are all very proud of the way we worked together and are continuing to do so going into the holiday season! We even purchased an office scale and body fat calculator so we can continue our efforts toward healthy living.
