Employee of the Quarter

Richard Baddour:

Richard Baddour has been working regularly for The Event Team for the past year and a half, and while he is new to The Event Team, he is not new to the industry.  Most days, Richard can be found on the front drive of the Marriott Marquis Hotel welcome leisure and business travelers to San Diego.  When he isn't working his "day job" Richard happily helps out as one of our staff loading coaches, greeting guests at the airport or taking a group on a dine around.  Richard is a true professional and is a pleasure to work with and have as part of our staff.  He is always a team player, is very attentive to our guests and their needs and is always happy to help out the operations team in whatever capacity we need.  Richard's wonderful attitude has made him standout amongst the crowd this quarter and we appreciate all he has done to help us shine in the eyes of our clients!

Vendor of the Quarter
California Excursions:
The 2nd quarter has been a busy one in Los Angeles with many of our clients requesting shuttles for their attendees to and from the Convention Center.  We would have not been as successful in accommodating our clients' needs and requests if it wasn't for our trusted and loyal partner California Excursions!  Alex and his team have helped pull us through some challenges and have lent us their expertise to make sure things go smoothly and look effortless to our clients.  Based on our exposure in the LA Live area this year - we have been recommended by the LA Convention Center to other clients for their shuttling needs.  Our confidence in accommodating these clients is thanks in part to our valued partnership with California Excursions. Thank you!

Let the Fat-Off Begin!
TET Works Together on Fitness Goals

As a multi-year finalist for San Diego Business Journal's Healthiest Company awards, The Event Team has a reputation to uphold! The biggest culprits that have been distracting us from this? Delicious treats at the lunch table from various group birthday celebrations and summertime happy hours tempting us to eat/drink more and exercise less!

So enough is enough! As an office, we decided it's time for our annual Fat-Off! In prior years, this has been an individual weight-loss competition with a winner-take-home prize. This year, we chose to stick together and reach our individual goals with a group effort and both individual/group rewards. This will allow the entire team to support each other along the way and celebrate our common commitment to healthy living!

Earlier this month, the team participated in the "before" weigh-in, with help from our neighbors at The Perfect Workout in Mission Valley (check out their website and like them on Facebook...they are lovely to work with and dedicated to helping people reach their health/fitness goals). We measured weight, as well as body fat percentage, muscle percentage, BMI, V-fat, and our "fitness age". The results weren't terrible, but we all agreed that there is much room for improvement!

Most of us are aiming for a healthy 5-10 lb weight loss goal by our final weigh-in on August 2nd.

We (ten of us - 4 men, 6 women) are starting with a combined weight of 1,873 lbs and have a combined weight loss goal of 97 lbs. There have already been positive changes around the office, including short, healthy lunches followed by a quick afternoon walk with group discussions about how to finish out the day with a healthy dinner and more exercise. As a DMC, The Event Team is already accustomed to working together toward a common goal when it comes to event planning. We're all happy to extend that team spirit toward healthier lifestyles. Stay tuned for updates along the way! Or better yet, gather a group at your office and join us by organizing your own office Fat Off! We'd love to support your efforts too!

Brand Recognition!
TET Takes Home Branding Award

This month Bill Yahres, our VP of Sales & Marketing, attended the Hosts Global Alliance Inaugural Forum in Chicago. Besides meeting and networking with clients, Bill was able to explore the windy city and bond with many of our HGA partners from all over the world! The Event Team was also the proud recipient of HGA's Brand Award. Using the Hosts Global Alliance re-branding and launch as inspiration, The Event Team underwent a brand face-lift in 2012 and has been working diligently ever since to exemplify our "Super People. Superior Events." tagline. By focusing on creating a positive online presence via social media and marketing, as well as developing an excellent reputation among clients and industry partners for our top-notch service, The Event Team continues to offer creative and effective solutions that meet and exceed client expectations time after time, event after event.  We are very honored and proud of this achievement, as well as grateful to our partners at Hosts Global Alliance for their support and for always putting The Event Team in a position to succeed!

Summer Expansion...

First the bad news...matt pres

Many of us have reached a level of "fatness" that had to be stopped. In order to shrink our expanding waistlines, The Event Team's annual Fat Off has begun! (Read more in the article below).

Now the really good news...

  • We have opened and enlarged the Los Angeles office and Danny and his team is already kicking butt!
  • We added Jackie Fenelly to our staff. She has already jumped in and added tons of venues we can use for groups.
  • We have added to our award winning Team Building department by joining forces with Positive Adventures to increase our products
  • We added to our awards by taking home the Marketing and Branding Award from the Host Global Alliance meeting. (Thanks Lindsay)
  • We added to our list of large-scale events by taking over all of LA Live for a group.
  • And most importantly we added Mason Evan Linde to our family. Congratulations Romy and Gavin!

These and many other developments have made for an exciting 2013 so far! Enjoy reading about all the ways The Event Team is growing in this quarter's issue. Here's to being bigger and better than ever (except for our weight)!

Personnel Expansion...

The Event Team is so proud to announce the arrival of baby Linde! At 12:01am on June 5th, Senior Sales Manager Romy Linde and her husband Gavin welcomed 6.13 oz, 19 inch Mason Evan Linde into the world! It's clear that Mason is surrounded by love, and The Event Team is thrilled to add baby Linde to our growing list of FOTETs (friends of The Event Team).

Back at the San Diego office, The Event Team family is growing too! Last quarter, we announced an addition to our Los Angeles office with the hiring of Dan Bolen. This month, we brought on Jackie Fennelly as our newest team member. Jackie started working for The Event Team several months ago as an intern, and she was an easy selection when discussing the need for a full time Sales & Marketing Assistant. Jackie has already contributed much to both departments by assisting with client proposals, database management, research and development, and several other marketing projects. We are happy to have her on board!

Event Production Expansion...

The Event Team has always been confident in our ability to produce large-scale corporate events all across Southern California, but lately there has been an extra drive to elevate our level of service and client satisfaction when it comes to events accommodating 500-8,000 attendees. As a result, The Event Team continues to win more and more "big" business across Southern California. In the last year, The Event Team has successfully operated an 8,000+ person block party in the heart of San Diego's Gaslamp District, themed events for 650+ guests at one of North San Diego's finest resort hotels, shuttles and multi-venue receptions for the April's citywide RIMS convention in Los Angeles (up to 1,200+ guests), and a large-scale reception and awards ceremony at both Nokia Plaza in LA Live (4,500+ guests)and the Los Angeles Convention Center (3,750+ guests). Local area expertise and strong local vendor connections are two of the biggest values when working with a Destination Management Company. We are happy to be your one-stop shop for your next event, overseeing all your venue, decor, catering, entertainment, staffing, transportation, and production needs!

Venue Expansion...

Over the last several years, we have watched San Diego's craft beer scene grow steadily, earning it the nickname "Craft Beer Capital of the US." Leading the charge has always been Stone Brewery, whose product can be found all over the world. The company's sprawling North County tour/tasting facility and restaurant is quite impressive - a favorite stop on any San Diego beer tour.  Stone has seen so much growth, they have now opened a brand new location in Liberty Station, just a few minutes from the San Diego Airport. The new venue encompasses more than 23,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor dining and bars, as well as a bocce ball court, outdoor cinema space and lush garden. Executive Chef Tausha Lopez offers an eclectic menu of world-inspired cuisine featuring local, organic fare. Stone offers 40 taps and more than 100 bottles of exceptional craft beers, including Stone year-round and special releases as well as craft and specialty beers from other breweries around the world! Congratulations to this San Diego staple!
