Employee of the Quarter
Shirley Foushee:
Shirley Foushee has been a member of The Event Team's Orange County staff since 1998. Throughout the years and with every assignment Shirley has demonstrated her attention to detail, her professional demeanor and her charming way with our clients. On a few occasions when our Ops department has been lean, we've trusted Shirley to be more proactive and involved with clients when we couldn't be onsite for an event. Every time Shirley is given an assignment, we know that our clients are in good hands and will be well taken care of. Recently, The Event Team became busier than anticipated and again we've empowered our core staff to go over and above what is expected - and Shirley never disappoints! Whether it is taking extra time out of her day to drive an unfamiliar route for a shuttle so she can explain it to the bus driver later, or calling a venue to confirm what size vehicle can pull up their steep driveway, Shirley's extra dedication has proved to the Operations Department what an asset she is to our team! Congratulations Shirley- you are a true professional and a valued member of The Event Team!

Vendor of the Quarter
Spectrum Games/ Dean Almeida:
The Event Team found Spectrum Games in a most unusual way - by using Google. The night before an event, our usual game vendor called an informed us that they couldn't deliver they games they had promised because they wouldn't fit in the hotel's elevator. Our ops manager was left trying to figure out how to keep our commitment to our client. Ah - the power of Google! Staying after hours, she began calling a few random people and leaving messages - finally someone called back! That someone was Dean Almeida from Spectrum Events, and he saved our event and quickly became a valued partner to The Event Team. He took the extra time to breakdown the game as far as necessary to make it fit in the hotel elevator. And did so without inflating the price of the game. (I think he took pity on the ops manager and could hear the desperation in her voice.) Since then, Dean has always gone the extra mile for The Event Team - providing quality games of all kinds at a reasonable price and always delivers on time - even when he has to be in three different cities on one day! Thank you Dean for always returning our calls and making the effort to reach out to the different venues to make sure the equipment will fit, the load in is smooth and our clients are happy!

Get out there!
As we celebrate our 20th year in business I realize that this company was not built by all of us sitting behind our desks. It was built by "getting out there" and visiting people, places and things. I think this is also a key reason why we like our jobs and how we stay motivated.
I was reminded of this the other day on a site inspection in Laguna Beach. It was a perfect day in Southern California (of course) and the clients could not stop raving about how beautiful everything was. I realized that seeing things through your client's eyes stops you from being jaded and makes you appreciate everything a lot more. I also realized that I could have been stuck in the office that day instead of eating a great lunch along the gorgeous coastline of Southern California.
More importantly, the more we get out and see new venues, learn new things, network with colleagues and show clients what a beautiful place we live in, the more successful we are. This is why after 20 years I still love my job! It's a tough life but somebody has to live it!
Get out there!
-Matt

TET Enjoys San Diego Retreat at Paradise Point Resort
Sometimes it's hard to pick a retreat destination when there is so much fun to be had in our own backyard. This year we stayed close to home by meeting, relaxing, and playing at Paradise Point Resort in San Diego. We enjoyed their lovely meetings space, pool, spa, bonfire area, jet skiis, and more! We also used the time out of the office to take a field trip over to the Gaslamp District to check out some new venues. Among our favorites were Block No. 16 (a HUGE modern club/entertainment complex) and Barley Mash (a new restaurant and bar that is passionate about providing great service and delicious local food). Both venues would be spectacular for large corporate parties! Contact sales@eventteam.com if you're interested in learning more about these and other new venues in San Diego! Check out more highlights and pictures from our retreat!

Hotelier Appreciation Mixer at Herringbone in La Jolla
We love working together with our Hotel Partners to create superior events for our shared clients! We also love being able to showcase new venues to them, while treating them to an appreciation event simultaneously!
Last Wednesday, we held our quarterly hotel mixer at a restaurant called Herringbone, Brian Malarkey's new venture in La Jolla. Malarkey lives up to the high expectations he's set at this new space. The decor is unique, the energy is great and the food is wonderful!
Congratulations to Mary Anne George from Paradise Point Resort, the lucky 3rd Quarter Lead Drive Winner, who is now the owner of a brand new Juicer. Here's to health! Another winner was Alisa Walsh from Hard Rock Hotel, who took home a Herringbone gift card in our raffle drawing. The big winner of the night was Greg Louie from Paradise Point Resort, our 3rd Quarter Hotelier of the Quarter.
Thank you so much to all of our hotel partners who join us at these events. It is so nice to get out of the office once in awhile to enjoy each others' company (and a new venue)!

Danny Fisk's LA Dish
Danny Fisk is the new GM of our LA office, and we are thrilled to have him on the team! He was born and raised in Beverly Hills and is all-knowing when it comes to the history of Los Angeles, as well as the new trends popping up in every neighborhood. We thought we'd feature his expertise in our newsletter starting now! Danny's Dish: Food is new everywhere. They may say LA is filled with fake people, but there is nothing fake about the reinvention of LA's culinary scene. From longtime favorites to the newest kids on the block, LA is getting its own facelift with foodies standing in lines all over the city.
One of LA's culinary staples, Spago, just got a fresher and chicer look. A principal in the LA dining world Wolfgang Puck and his team have updated the feel and taste of his Beverly Hills flagship restaurant. With new additions of an open kitchen, patio with a retractable roof the feel of the restaurant boost a commentary and modern feel.

Along with the new look there is an updated menu focusing on California Asian fusion to delight both newcomers and regulars.Gordon Ramsay is also giving a new look to one of LA's most popular malls, The Grove, with the opening of The Fat Cow. With a warm and welcoming feel this spot has the neighborhood feel while showcasing amazing farm fresh ingredients sought and bought daily. With a menu offering everything from comfort food to delicious European favorites to seasonal salads, there is something for everyone. Most anticipated is the Moo Bar at the front of the restaurant, an ice cream counter serving soft serve ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, fro-yo, milkshakes, and sweet yummies.

The Bungalow, the newest kid of the block in Santa Monica, is uniquely positioned as a freestanding bungalow at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel. Guests are able to enjoy the beauty of the pacific with expansive ocean views, lush gardens, rustic interior designs, sweeping decks and an intimate patio. Kick back and hang ten while enjoying refreshing cocktails and an exclusive menu designed and provided by Chef Ray Garcia's FIG restaurant.

Sunset Boulevard has seen more reinventions than any part of LA, the newest addition to the strip is, Gorge, a charcuterie house and wine bar. Executive Chef and Owner, Elia Aboumrad and Pastry Chef and Owner, Uyen Nguyen have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere from the ornate tin ceilings to the unfinished wood wainscoting, with the focus being a U-shaped bar; this spot gives a new vibe to the glitz of the strip. Besides the décor the menu is definitely shaking up the taste buds of locals, offering French cuisine with items such as PIG EAR TARTINE and FRISÉE SALAD featuring bacon flan. Not to mention an amazing wine selection.
