AN INTRODUCTION TO ICONOGRAPHY
|
REMINDER: As an introduction to our class on iconography beginning this fall, Susan Kelly von Mendicus will offer a presentation on the history and writing of icons during adult Sunday School hour on Sunday, September 13.
Ms. Von Mendicus is on the faculty at Villanova and does frequent classes on calligraphy and icon writing (painting) in churches throughout the northeast. For the class this fall, it is important to note that prior experience or ability is absolutely not a requirement. It is a spiritual discipline, one cultivated for centuries by our Eastern brothers and sisters, and many of the most famous icons were written by those who had few obvious artistic gifts. Although we are trying to include other churches in the deanery, the charge for CHT members is $370 for the semester, $200 less than the regular fee.
Working with icons is a wonderful spiritual experience, and I encourage all to take advantage of this deeply enriching experience.

LOOK INWARD, LOOK FORWARD
| Rector Search and Discernment Updates Look Inward, Look Forward Please join your Vestry and Rector Search Committee as we take the next important step in our discernment process. All are invited to attend and participate in a special workshop to build a parish-wide consensus for God's calling to us: who we are, and where God wants us to go. This is a chance for your voice to be heard, for you to speak your concerns, and to help us determine our path for the future. Sunday, September 20th , 11:00am - 3:00pm (Centennial Room)
Our consultant The Rev. Richard Ullman will be leading us through an important process at the workshop. He will also be our guest preacher at the 11 am worship service. Please note, the 11am worship service will be about 45 minutes, so that the workshop may begin at Noon. Please spread the word to fellow parishioners about this important meeting and join in this community of givers who know how valuable their ideas, spirit, and leadership are to this process.
Please sign up at church or register online, by clicking HERE.

FILL-THE-BUS!
| As in years past CHT has committed to participation in Fill-the-Bus, a wonderful program sponsored by Episcopal Community Services for students in under-resourced schools in our area. This year we are collecting supplies for three schools in Feltonville, supplies that will be used throughout the year and will provide much-needed financial relief to students and teachers. In the back of the sanctuary, there is a board with Post-It notes describing items to be purchased. Simply take one of the notes, purchase the item and place it in the bin beneath the sign. Your participation will benefit many students and their families.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!

PAPAL WEEKEND
| As most of you know, the weekend of September 25-27 will be a challenging one for many of us, affecting our mobility in and out of the city.
Regrettably, it will affect the worship of all Center City churches on the 27th, including our services at CHT.
Understanding that many will not be able to attend that day, we will have two "said" services that day at our usual times of 8:30 and 11:00am, with Christian education between the services for those who can join us.
Please bear with us as we negotiate these disruptions and continue with our regular schedule on October 4.
