As one who attended Jewish camp as a child for many years, Shabbat was the crme de la crme - that period of time when all our senses came alive - from the breezes off the lake that enveloped us during t'fillah (worship) to the smell of nature that deepened our spirituality, and the sensed presence of God in our outdoor sanctuary. I miss those Shabbat experiences, but each year when we gather as a community at the Lighthouse Beach Picnic Shelter for Shabbat morning services, I am reminded of how Shabbat can feel, taste, and smell. If you have yet to experience such a service, I invite you to do so this Shabbat morning, August 1, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Led by Rabbi London and Cantor Friedman, the shelter and the space surrounding us are filled with such ruach (spirit), that you too, will feel alive. Details are available below, and plan on staying for our potluck lunch following services.
This week we also bid farewell to Ron Mangas, who has served as Beth Emet's Facility Manager for a number of years. While many know him as one who is friendly and helpful, we were also blessed to have someone who has an in-depth knowledge of the inner-workings of the building. He will be missed, but we are fortunate that Rick Valentin, a
member of our building staff and as someone who has been involved with Beth Emet for years, will be stepping in as Facility Supervisor. Rick has been working at Beth Emetsince 2010, and he will be a wonderful addition in this new capacity.
May the sweetness of summer remain with you for months to come, and I look forward to worshipping with you this coming Shabbat. L'Shalom, Bekki Harris Kaplan
