The Art of Hospitality In "The Dining Room" Dining Room      As we approach Thanksgiving, our minds start planning that special Thanksgiving meal.  It's an opportunity to express your creativity and love for your family and friends by creating a festive table.  Here are a few basics to get you started in the all important Dining Room:

  • Remember your goal is to create an atmosphere of comfort, as well as beauty, where guests will relax and conversations are free to flow.
  • The Dining Room is the place to use the color red as it stimulates one's tastebuds.
  • Create ambiance using several light sources: a chandelier (on dimmers please), maybe buffet lamps, and definitely candles- flattering the complexions of your guests.
  • Mirrors add sparkle, drama and depth to the space.  Take a look at these.....
  • Fresh flowers add organic beauty, texture and color.  Be creative and mix in with decorative items that fit your theme.  Keep arrangements on dining table low so they do not block view of guests.

Harvest Farmhouse Style to Freshen a Fall Home

Country Style
Reap the reward of a wholesome feel when you infuse your  home with farmhouse colors, furnishings and accessories.
My family makes several trips each fall to a nearby farm to take part in the seasonal rituals of pumpkin picking and apple cider making - and without fail, each  year I am drawn in by the wholesome warmth of farmhouse style. From the fresh,  sunny colors and views of wide-open spaces to the reminders of honest hard work  and a connection to the past, there is much to be inspired by.

Dorothy Draper book Blog Spot: "Entertaining Is Fun!" by Jan Showers
Furniture & Interior Designer, Jan Showers takes five entertaining tips from Dorothy Draper's 1940's book and adds her own modern day spin on them.  I love Jan's direct comment that explains the importance of correct lighting: "Overhead lighting is used in movies and television to age people----it should only be used for highlighting art and objects."  Amen!  .

                      The Gift of Hospitality

Dona Rosene InteriorsAlthough today the term "hospitality" describes an industry serving travelers and guests away from the comforts of home, hospitality has been practiced throughout history.  In the dictionary, it is defined as "the friendly treatment of guests or strangers; an act or show of welcome."

Hospitality has been considered a virtue in most cultures and religions throughout history.  It is referenced in the laws and covenants of the Old Testament, as well as the New Testament and is associated with promise and blessing.  It is a said to be a spiritual gift and an expression of compassion.

Hospitality can be expressed through many ways; from sharing food and drink at anytime or place all the way to providing overnight lodging.  We are making someone feel welcome and "at home" when they are our guests.  We want to prepare our homes not only for our comfort but for the purpose of sharing our lives with our guests and making them feel comfortable in our home.

As a licensed Interior Designer for the past 25 years, I've enjoyed collaborating with my Clients to bring their personality and style to life through the decor of their home or office.

Whether you have no idea where to start or you have a vision of what you want, we simply help bring it to life, at a great value for your investment.

You have the option of completing an entire room, groups of rooms or home in a single installation, as well as break your project into several phases such as a room at a time or a group of rooms.  Call today to schedule your appointment. 214-769-1059
