Congratulations to
One Vision Housing
Champagne toast

We are delighted to congratulate One Vision Housing, with whom we've had special contact, on yet another achievement demonstrating their consistent commitment to excellence. They currently top the list in the Medium Category of UK's Best Workplaces, though it's no surprise to us, as we've already heard excellent feedback direct from their own people.

One Vision Housing also did very well in last year's UK Excellence Awards,  winning not only the UK Excellence Award itself,  but also the  Achievement Award for Leadership.

One Vision Housing is a not for profit organisation formed in October 2006, providing more than 11,500 homes across Sefton, Merseyside. Their commitment to excellence has seen them steadily improve in the eyes of their customers and they have won many awards and accolades in recent years, such as those above and  the Investors in People Gold Award.

Many congratulations to One Vision Housing
on such well deserved recognition!

About the Commonwealth

The Commonwealth of Nations, to give it its full title, was formerly called the British Commonwealth. Dating back to the mid 20th century, it was formed with the decolonisation of the British Empire through increased self-governance of its territories and was formally constituted by the London Declaration in 1949, which established the member states as "free and equal".

There are 53 member countries, 16 of which have HM Queen Elizabeth II as their Queen and 31 of which have a population of 1.5 million people or less

There are over two billion Commonwealth citizens, over half of whom are 25 years old or less, and a quarter of whom are under 5 years old

First Commonwealth country in the alphabet : Antigua and Barbuda

Last Commonwealth country in the alphabet : Zambia

Well England may have gone out in the first round of The World Cup and Andy Murray may not have won Wimbledon again and who knows how our teams will perform in the Commonwealth Games, but at least we seem to be having a proper summer this year, so it's not all bad news.

As you may be aware, early summer is when many of our people are normally busy assessing for the UK Excellence Award and this year has been no exception. We have, as ever, been privileged to work with some great people, both on our assessor teams and in the companies being assessed. With the assessing now completed and the Jury meeting yesterday; we now know who the finalists are. Ley Hill are proud to have led assessor teams for 2 of the 4 finalists so good luck to the University of Winchester and First TransPennine Express. We  look forward to the announcement of the winners at the awards ceremony in October - see you there.

For more information on the assessment framework used for the UK Excellence Award - The EFQM Excellence model - and other forms of assessment and self-assessment based on this model, particularly recent changes to the Levels of Excellence programme, see our articles below.

And as we are now into the Commonwealth Games, check your Commonwealth knowledge by having a look at our quick facts below left.

Wishing you all a very good summer holiday season, whatever you're doing,
EFQM Excellence Model - revised Levels of Excellence programme, now Levels of Recognition

The EFQM have recently revised their recognition and reward programme to better facilitate and recognise organisations making staged progress from a position where, though not necessarily performing badly, they find it difficult to identify appropriate improvement as many of their policies, systems and procedures are neither systematic and robust nor regularly measured and reviewed. It can be very disheartening for an organisation, having fully committed themselves to an excellence programme, to find that, on undergoing a self-assessment for the first time, they do not score very highly against the ideal model and that they have a long way to go before any form of external recognition is likely to take place.

As part of their previous Levels of Excellence programme, the EFQM have long had Committed to Excellence (C2E) and Recognised for Excellence (R4E) as stages on the way to achieving world class excellence and becoming a potential candidate for awards such as the UK Excellence Award or the EFQM Excellence Award.

But now, in the new Levels of Recognition programme, they have two levels at the C2E stage (one and two stars) and three at the R4E stage (three, four and five stars), with the Excellence Award scheme incorporated into the overall programme as the ultimate stage. There is also now the option of applying for an appropriate level of external assessment and recognition at each progressive stage.

At ley hill solutions we have people who have an unprecedented amount of experience in the use of the EFQM model, both as a business management and improvement tool and as a way to achieve external recognition, within the UK, Europe and beyond. We are able to support any type of organisation, both in the implementation and application of the Model at all levels and in the preparation and application for all the various levels of external recognition and reward. Our Toolkit - The EFQM Excellence Model

Since its creation in the late 1980s, The EFQM Excellence Model has been used as the model of excellence for the annual excellence awards process in many countries around the globe, including the UK Excellence Award and EFQM Excellence Award. It has also been used as input to the development of other country specific excellence models e.g. The South African Excellence Model. It has had various revisions and updates since it was first introduced, as, in line with its own quality principles, it is constantly being reviewed and improved to ensure it maintains its relevance and effectiveness in changing economic, commercial and social environments. The latest 2013 version is shown below.

The Model was first introduced as the primary framework for both assessing performance and improving organisations so that they could achieve a sustainable advantage.  Extensive research carried out by Dr. Vinod Singal of the Georgia Institute of Technology and Dr. Kevin Hendricks of the University of Western Ontario shows that the effective use of excellence models and basic TQM principles has a direct positive effect on the bottom line. The Model has also proved very successful in improving the performance of public sector and not-for-profit organisations.
