Some things you might not know about the London Underground -
1. There is a "ghost" station between Holborn and Tottenham Court Road called British Museum, unused since 1932
2. The Central Line housed an aircraft factory during World War II
3. The carriages originally had no windows, but passengers complained about this even though the initial lines were entirely underground

Vote for the winner of the EFQM Good Practice 2013 competition
The EFQM have announced the finalists in their Good Practice 2013 competition, which focuses on best practice in developing New Ways of Working. The winner will be decided by a jury who will take into account a public vote. The public voting finishes at the end of June, so you still have plenty of time to cast a vote yourself.
Launching the competition earlier in the year, Mr. Marc Amblard, EFQM's CEO, commented "Organisations must adapt to both generational and technological evolutions. These result in opportunities and risks. What are your new ways of working to maximise your people's engagement and your organisation's performance? This competition is a great way for you to value your experience and learn from others in the EFQM community."
Have a look at what practices the four finalists are being recognised for and cast your vote to help decide who should be the winner.
The four finalists are -
- Bursagaz, a natural gas distribution company located in Bursa, Turkey
- Glasgow Housing Association, a registered charity
- Mutualia, an organisation collaborating with the Spanish social security system in the management of work-related accidents and illness
- German based Robert Bosch GmbH, a leading global technology and services company

Our Toolkit - Excellence and Assessment Frameworks
Since the early 1960's organisations have been searching for common frameworks that define quality or excellence. In particular, they see the most successful organisations and want to know the secrets of their success. Over the years various groups have tried to distil these elements of success into models or frameworks that can be used and adapted for a wide range of businesses and other organisations. Each model or framework represents an ideal of excellence against which an organisation can assess itself and identify improvement opportunities, the implementation of which will drive enhanced performance.
Models can also be used as a common framework against which to independently assess the excellence of an organisation in association with recognition and award schemes such as
The Deming Prize, which originated in Japan
The Baldridge Award, which originated in the USA
The EFQM Excellence Award, which originated in Europe
The UK Excellence Award
The EFQM Excellence Model, first created in the 1980's and since continually reviewed and changed to ensure it maintains its relevance in the ever changing global marketplace, is used for both The EFQM Excellence Award and The UK Excellence Award and also for many other awards, not only in Europe.
Originally these models, frameworks and awards were developed with commercial organisations in mind, to help them improve their business success. However, as they have developed, the need has been recognised for similar frameworks in non-commercial organisations and many now have specially tailored sections or award categories for different sectors e.g. service industry, public service, charity, education, health, not-for-profit, small businesses. The Deming Prize even has a category for Individuals.
Contact us if you would like to know more about how using such a framework could help improve your organisation's performance.
