Greetings!
Last week, on Thursday 25 October, ley hill solutions and some of our customers had a very enjoyable evening at the UK Excellence Awards ceremony, held by the British Quality Foundation (BQF).

In considering organisations for the awards, the BQF use an assessment process based on the EFQM Excellence Model (for recent changes to this model, see our article below). We at ley hill solutions have a tradition of supporting the BQF each year by providing a number of experienced lead assessors and contributing to the development of the assessment process.
Presentation of the awards followed an excellent meal, during which there was some stimulating conversation about a range of business management and performance issues. It was very inspiring, as always, to see the standard of the winners and finalists and to understand how much their commitment to the principles and application of the Excellence Model has contributed to their business success. It was especially gratifying, too, to see up amongst the winners, organisations with which we have had close contact. See our special congratulations to them to the left.
The event was hosted by broadcaster and journalist Louise Minchin in the presence of the Patron of the BQF, HRH The Princess Royal, who was in attendance throughout and gave a very supportive speech after the award presentations.
Below is the full list of winners for the various categories of award. It is always worth considering these companies as potential benchmarking partners, especially those who work in similar fields or have gained particular recognition in any area where you yourself have identified improvement opportunities.
If you would like to see more photographs of the Awards ceremony, please use this link. This is a slideshow of photographs from the 2012 UK Excellence Award Ceremony held at the InterContinental Hotel, London Park Lane on Thursday 25 October. We hope you enjoy them. If you would like to order any copies, please let us know and we will send you the photographers details so that you can arrange to purchase them. |

Changes to the EFQM model for 2013 assessment
At ley hill solutions we are utterly convinced of the effectiveness of the EFQM Excellence Model as a holistic means of managing, improving and sustaining the performance of an organisation. Extensive research carried out by Dr. Vinod Singal of the Georgia Institute of Technology and Dr. Kevin Hendricks of the University of Western Ontario shows that the use of excellence models and basic Total Quality Management (TQM) principles has a direct effect on the bottom line.
The EFQM (formerly known as the European Foundation for Quality Management), who developed the model, are, in line with basic TQM principles, continually using stakeholder input to review and improve it and ensure it continues to be a very effective management tool in changing social, economic and commercial environments. The following is a summary of their most recent changes, which will come into effect for 2013 assessment onwards. The RADAR logic has been retained, but the model itself and The Fundamental Concepts of Excellence have been changed to focus more on agility and sustainability, reflecting the need for organisations in the current global climate to ensure they have the agility to respond swiftly to changing environmental and market pressures and can sustain excellent performance to meet the short and long term needs of all their stakeholders, including the wider community.
There are still nine criteria in the model, with the same main titles, apart from one - Key Results has been changed to Business Results. However, there have been changes in the the way excellent performance in each of the nine criteria has been defined, in order to reflect the new focus mentioned above.
There are also still eight Fundamental Concepts of Excellence, but most have had their titles and/or their definitions modified and two have been removed and replaced with new concepts. The table below shows the changes.
