I pray that you are well and dry enough. All the prayers for rain that we've been sending up these past two months probably could have used a little directive, in terms of the timing. All at once and on the Fair weekend is probably not what we gardeners and lawn lovers had in mind. Rain or shine, the Fair will take place in all its glory and merriment, and I look forward to seeing you there.

 

The Fair is such a marvelous way for us to work together and to show off the kind of loving, gifted community we are. I love that thousands of people come to St. David's to enjoy the Fair and to see what we're about, as a Christian community. I also love seeing so many people who have been part of St. David's come home for the Fair and to be warmed by the memories of a community where they have been cared for and loved.

 

We are blessed in this 300th year to have a number of our former clergy and their family members come to St. David's this weekend. Ten former Associates or priests who have been raised up for ministry from St. David's are coming home this weekend for a special reception on Friday evening, October 2, from 6-8pm (all of us are invited). They're coming to remember that they have a home with God here and to be refreshed by all of us.

 

Jesus calls all of us who are weary and burdened by the struggles and challenges of life to come home to Him. This is one of Jesus' most promising calls on our lives. There are no expectations beyond coming to Him. We do not have to "do" anything once we've answered. We are called home to a love, a grace and a peace that are like no others. He calls us because we are His.

Christ's call on our lives is a call to a deeper and richer life than any we can achieve on our own. So wherever you are; whatever burden you may be carrying; whatever fears are touching your life; He calls you and me and will give us rest.
