Liturgy Update
5th Sunday of Easter
May 3, 2015

"I am the way, the truth and the life."

The words that Jesus gives to Thomas he gives to us all!  What we are asked to do?  To trust, to believe, to love...

These words can guide each of our days, and every morning we are given the gift of a clean slate to journey with, again.

Trust and believe,
Kathleen

The Tijuana Ministry
will have a bake sale after Masses on this weekend (May 2nd and 3rd).   Have you baked something to donate to their event?  Please support them all that you can - we are one parish family, helping each other.
This will help  raise funds for the building supplies that they will use this summer
Bring your baked goods to the church, packaged for sale after or before any of the Masses this weekend.

Kathleen is on retreat this weekend. Parish directories will be available to everyone again on Mother's Day weekend.  If you did not participate in the Life Touch pictures, you may purchase 1 copy of the directory for $5.

We have Hospitality in Farana after the 8:30 and 10 am Masses again this weekend. A HUGE thanks to the Sacred Heart Tamil Catholic Group  who stepped in to host this weekend when I had no volunteers to serve after both Masses.   Stop by Farana for coffee, tea, juice and donuts a chat and also a thank you to the hosts!

FYI - we will have a second collection that will go to Catholic Relief Services to help those in Nepal, in the wake of the earthquake that devastated their country.

Proclaimer Ministry

Deacon Mike will not be with us for Masses this weekend.

I do not have a new message to you!  As I read the pointers below, I feel like they guide us in the right direction!

Proclaiming the Word of God is a combination of a gift/talent and training!  It combines:
1. Knowledge of the use of a microphone.
2.  Knowledge of how to speak in a very large space to a group of diverse listeners.
3. Excellent diction
4. Pray and preparation on the reading itself

There is opportunity for growth in one area or another for each of us!  What will you work to improve upon next time you  proclaim?

I offer training for new proclaimers and also ongoing training/tune ups for all proclaimers.

PRESIDER: United in the Lord and with the Lord, we present our needs to our heavenly Father.

For the Church: that our faith may deepen, our hope be strengthened, and our love abound as we draw our life from Christ.  We pray....

For all who are receiving the Eucharist for their first time: may this blessed sacrament and love of Jesus deepen and renew them.  We pray....

For all who died in the earthquake in Nepal: may they find eternal rest and may the survivors receive the aid and assistance that they need.  We pray....

For migrants fleeing unsafe conditions, particularly those crossing the Mediterranean Sea: that God will preserve their lives and guide them to places of safety.  We pray....

For all who are ill: that Christ will renew the gift of life within them and restore them to health.  We pray....

6.     For
5 pm - William Ravizza, Jr.
    7:00 am - Jesus Ooka  (HAY-seus OO-kah)
    8:30 am - Teresita Lopez
    10 am - Colleen Kader
    5:30 pm - Nora Graham

and for all the Faithful Departed.  We pray...

11:30 am - For the People of the Parish.  We pray...

PRESIDER:  Gracious God, may we glorify you through our unity with Jesus, your Son.  Look favorably upon us and bless us as we ask these prayers through Christ our Risen Lord.   Amen.

2. Please do NOT put any coffee grounds or food stuff of any kind in the sinks in the kitchen.  Place all solid matter in the trash.  It clogs the drains and causes odors in Farana.  Thank you for your cooperation.

3.  Please let me know when we are running low on juice, sugar, sweeteners, etc, and paper products.  ([email protected])

4. Part of the clean up involves checking the restrooms as well.  Please make sure that paper etc. is properly placed in waste receptacles.

Chimers
The books are set for this weekend.  Sunday 10 am Mass is a 1st Communion Mass.  You will be joined by Chime Alumni!  Andrea and Davide were in our very first group of chimers and their sister is receiving 1st Communion.  Welcome back Andrea and Davide!

Carter and Julia will set up mics for you this weekend.  Stay alert!  I won't be at any of the Masses. Arielle is playing piano with you at 10 am.  Be ready to play.  :)  I'm so proud of all of you.

We need you to chime for our Confirmation Mass at 2 pm on May 17th!  Be there....

Altar Servers
The cincture color is WHITE for Easter season.

I will be out of town this weekend. So stop by the piano before Mass NEXT weekend (Mother's Day weekend).  Kathleen

Set up for Eucharist at the Altar
1.  Place the corporal on the altar unopened.

2. During the Gathering Rite, you do not bow at the steps - just continue over to the right and up the steps.  The priest, deacon and proclaimers will bow, but you are carrying things (Crucifix and candles) continue to process up to the stands for the cross and candles... then to your chairs.

3. When you pour the water for the priest - pour it straight down like you are a faucet.

4. When ever you had someone something (water to priest) you must hand it to them with the handle toward them, so that they can easily receive it from you.  :)

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Deacon Mike is not with us for Masses this weekend.

IMPORTANT info - This weekend is 1st Communion for our school and Faith Formation students.  They will receive at the 5 pm, 10 am and 11:30 am Masses. There are 4 students at 5 pm, and approximately 18 or 19 at the other two Masses (plus family).  Therefore the count of hosts and the amount of wine for Eucharist must be increased accordingly.  Thank you!

Here's the procedure for those Masses:
The Eucharistic Ministers will stand in their usual places.  The ushers will direct those receiving for the first time to use the center aisle.  The parishioners will be directed to proceed to the side aisles.  After the students have received, the parishioners will be directed to then also use the center aisle.
Thank you!

Thoughts for your ministry!
1. When you are distributing the Eucharist,
you must say, out loud, clearly, "The Body of Christ" and, "The Blood of Christ".  please don't whisper  :)

2.If there is no one receiving communion any longer at your station, please walk over to assist those still waiting to receive or possible help refill someone who may be running low.

3. Remember to make sure that all musician and ipad operators receive communion at the very end.

4. Please do not stand in front of projector light.

5. Please hold the Chalice in front of you - approximately chin height.  Check to see that you are not holding it up above your eye level!

6. Distribute the Blessed Body and Blood of Christ with a smile and love!

Mandate from Bishop McGrath
Bishop McGrath has asked us to follow the directive of bringing the ciborium out of the tabernacle ONLY if we run out of consecrated hosts at Mass.

If you are the first person to require more of the Blessed Body of Christ, walk to the tabernacle in the chapel and bring the ciborium to the altar and take the amount that you need back to your communion line.  Leave the ciborium on the altar for others, as needed.

As you distribute communion, you may want to break hosts in 2 if needed to finish a short procession line.

At the conclusion of communion the priest will place any unconsumed consecrated hosts into one vessel (if the ciborium has remained in the tabernacle) and one EM will take that vessel to the chapel to place the Blessed Body of Christ in the ciborium in the tabernacle.

If a Eucharistic Minister is unable to easily go to the chapel for the ciborium I will have other designated people on call to help at that moment.

Please ask Ric, Violetta or me if you have any questions.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we adapt to this procedure.

Usher Greeter Ministry
This week the second collection is for our Parish Maintenance Fund.

IMPORTANT info - This weekend is 1st Communion for our school and Faith Formation students.  They will receive at the 5 pm, 10 am and 11:30 am Masses. There are 4 students at 5 pm, and approximately 18 or 19 at the other two Masses (plus family).

I need the ushers to be ready to direct the communion procession.
Here's the procedure for those Masses:
The Eucharistic Ministers will stand in their usual places.  The ushers will direct those receiving for the first time to use the center aisle.  They will receive communion from the priest at the foot of the steps.  All other parishioners will be directed to proceed to the side aisles.  Everyone will begin to receive communion together.  DO NOT wait until the students receive, as this will delay the procession unnecessarily.   Please direct parishioners to fill in behind the students  in the center aisle so they can be ready to continue the communion procession behind the students and keep things flowing!
Thank you!

Thoughts for your ministry!
Smile and Greet!

If you know of new usher/greeters, please send me their email addresses.  Keep recruiting!  It is wonderful to expand our ranks.
