Liturgy Update
The 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 20,  2014

The readings for this Sunday are filled with many images: forgiveness, growth, promise, and call to prayer.  It feels as if wherever one turns, God is there, and it's true!  It is also seems that God calls us to not "speed" through life. Whether we are reading scripture, working, sitting quietly or talking, the request is that we be aware of God's presence in a myriad of ways, small moments in our lives that could yield bountiful harvest of love, care and forgiveness.

In the second reading there is a call for the faithful to be strong and to bravely pray and get better at it!  It seems that prayer may be one of those things that trying harder may not work as much as giving it time and attention to blossom through the Spirit.  Perhaps a moment reading a scripture in the sunshine of creation, followed by a stillness of heart to allow God IN would be a gift to God and to self.  Each day actually starts with a fantastic gift - the gift of another day in the paradise of Creation!  With God's forgiveness and encouragement we are asked to use these moments for Christ, to spread his light.

Our parishioners along with 80 others in our diocese are at this moment, in Tijuana building relationships and building houses!  You can follow their progress on Tijuana Ministry when you click on their "follow us on Facebook" button. Reports are that all is going very well and many stories are to be told when they return!  Heavy rains slowed them down a bit, but building is going strong!  Their first aid plan was put into effect when someone needed to go to the hospital in San Diego.  Everyone is fine though and the are always thankful for our prayers.

Below are the brief notes for our liturgical teams.  Thank you for your generous gift of service!  If you are not currently on a team and would like more information, please contact me.  Perhaps just sitting down together to talk about what you enjoy doing in life, will lead you to a place of service in our community that will give you joy and help others as well.

Peace,
Kathleen

What's Happening at Res...

All's going well at Res.  The Fil-Am group just sent a $500 check to help with the continued needs in the Philippines. More and more groups and individuals are signing up to join our Hospitality Ministry. The camps on the school campus continue to flourish, the boy scouts continue to work on tree removal, mission folk are building houses in Tijuana, St. Vincent de Paul is helping area families with food and shelter, our visits continue to the sick and shut in in their homes and in care facilities... the list is long!  Christ is alive through our hands.  Would you like to join a ministry?  Give us a call.

16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
July 20, 2014

PRESIDER: Our burdens are made light by our trust in God, who hears our prayers.

For Pope Francis: may he continue to ignite the fairness and compassion of Jesus as he guides the hearts of the faithful to act with openness, understanding and love. We pray

For Peace in the Middle East: that the seeds of justice and forgiveness will bear fruit and bring forth a new season of negotiation and understanding amongst all who live in the Holy Land. We pray

For all immigrants and refugees, particularly the children arriving at the US border: that their dignity may be respected and that they may find places safe from violence, gangs, and oppression.            We pray

For Wisdom: that we may recognize the small ways God is at work in our lives so that we may cooperate with God who accomplishes great things. We pray

For all who are traveling, especially those on our Tijuana Mission: that they may travel safely, have good visits, and find renewal in their time away.  We pray

Usher Greeter Ministry
There is NO second collection this weekend!

I believe Jose is off this weekend, so I thank you all for covering the jobs of the ministry in his absence.  Come over to the piano if you have any questions or need help.

Thoughts for your ministry!
Nuts and bolts..... the doors to our church need to all be unlocked and the bars on the inside locked in the open position so that the door just OPENS to those who want to join us!  See Kathleen or Jonathan for the key.

Please be extra careful if you are helping put our collection away after Mass.  Make sure that the collections go into the correct bags that are pre-marked by Mary-Clare.

Thank you!!!

Kathleen

ResGeeks (ipad/projector ministry)
Wow, we have two new and bright bulbs AND an updated system that is staying connected all the way through Mass.

Thank you to all who help run the slides.  If you think that this ministry is for YOU, stop by the piano and let me know that you are interested in helping.

Technology is our friend...
