Don't Forget! The 2012 Employee Campaign Coordinator Challenge!
Each Employee Campaign Coordinator who achieves the following criteria in this year's United Way campaign will be invited to attend a special reception hosted by Think Mutual Bank and we want to see a room full of ECC's!
To be eligible: Achieve a goal of increasing your campaign by $4.00 times the number of employees in your company or organization. For example: 50 employees x $4.00=$200.00. In this example an increase of $200 in your total employee campaign gift earns you an invitation to attend.

The event will be held at the new Cascade Meadows Wetlands & Environmental Science Center on Tuesday, November 27th from 5:00-7:00 pm. Networking, entertainment ,refreshments and hors devours will be part of the evening's festivities to show our appreciation for your effort to have a successful United Way campaign!

Campaign TIP of the Week
Special Events that Work
At our Campaign Cabinet meeting last Friday, we asked the Cabinet members to share some of their campaign experiences that they thought would be valuable to share with Employee Campaign Coordinators in a "Campaign TIP of the Week .The hand down winners were special events built around Denim Days and food!
It seems that everyone in the workplace appreciates the opportunity to have a casual or denim day at work, (we do too!). Companies that allow employees this privilege by making a monetary contribution, (often times $5.00) to the special event part of their United Way campaign always seem to have success. There are many variations of this. Some companies will have a casual or denim day for every week of their campaign. Some will have a specific month. Others will even allow denim days for every Friday of the year, if they reach a specific campaign goal!
If you choose to incorporate casual or denim days into your campaign, examples of stickers that you can print out to use are in the Tab 8 section of the "Campaign in a Binder" you received at ECC training, pages 8-17 and 8-18. You can also find these examples online on our campaign website by clicking here.
For a novel and fun twist on using a jeans theme for collecting cash gifts from employees, (and customers, where appropriate) some have had a "fill the jeans" event, where they have sewn or clipped together the legs on a pair of jeans and encouraged employees to fill the jeans with their loose cash!
Bake Sales and Pot Luck events that encourage employees to participate with their donated treats that are then 'sold' to the employees are always popular and successful. They may seem like old ideas, but we prefer to think of them as 'tried and true'! These are especially successful as part of a campaign kick-off or wrap-up event to thank employees for their participation.
If you have never incorporated a special event into your campaign try one of these proven winners. We're certain you won't be disappointed with the results.

Sister Generose was once quoted as saying, "Mayo Clinic is a gift." Everything we have and everything we give is a gift. It is an honor to participate in and give to the United Way campaign as a Mayo Clinic Employee." - Rondell P. Graham MBBS, Mayo Clinic Rochester | |

Nature's Best - Change the World and Start Right Here
Thank you Mike and Veronica Suk! Mike and Veronica are the owners of Nature's Best Cleaners and a long-time partner of United Way of Olmsted County through their support of our Caring Club program. They recently agreed to put one of our new cash donation boxes in each of their six stores, (here modeled by their employee Cami Leveron). In addition to the cash donations that we will receive from these boxes, they provide a valuable opportunity to increase awareness of United Way in the community.
We have 14 more of these boxes that we would love to find a home for! If you would be willing to place one of these boxes in your store, or restaurant, or a location that has high visibility to customer traffic, please contact Neal Engelman at 529-4505 or neale@uwolmsted.org and I will rush one out to you! |

Three Cheers for
United Way at Sunset Terrace |
| | Tim Strain and Sharon Davis |
"What a joy it was to speak at Sunset Terrace this morning! What an enthusiastic group. Their "skit" was terrific." - Joanne Rosener, United Way Speaker
"Joanne Rosener did a fantastic job! She shared key points with our staff and I really appreciated her patience in waiting to speak. She exuded an aura of generosity and complimented us for ours. Double wow! I appreciated the information specifically about the Imagination Library. More people need to tap into that resource and I think there are many teachers with small children who could use the service. Very impressive overall!" - Sharon Davis, Sunset Terrace Champion for Rochester Public Schools
