Greetings in the name of our awesome mighty Lord who is the same yesterday, today and forever!
Once again, Haiti has been hit with a powerful storm, this time, resulting in 52 casualties. And once again, the Haitian peoples' amazing resiliency kicks in to deal with the tragedy.
We are humbled by the strength, courage and faith of our Haitian brothers and sisters as they deal with these back-to-back tragedies. Hurricanes, earthquakes, cholera and more huricanes.
When floods wash away houses or destroy roads, there's no emergency response teams showing up to fix the problem. When a child is hit by a falling tree, there's no calling 911. There's no pre-storm hoarding of food in the local supermarket because they don't have the money to even purchase additional food. Instead, they just do the best they can and hope the loss is small. If they are a Christian, their faith carries them.
We can't help but feel humbled when see the Haitian people move forward after each tragedy.
Please continue to pray for the Haitian people, as you also pray for all those who have suffered loss or lost loved ones in Sandy's assault on the East Coast.
Jesus is Lord of all and it is only through Him that we can know true peace. It is our prayer that everyone can know this fact.
When we look at the many tragedies that Haiti has endured , we are reassured that our God's love is bigger and greater than any circumstance we can face on this earth.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 God bless you. In Christ in Haiti, The Manasseros |

Hurricane Sandy Slams Haiti - 52 Dead
Still recovering from Tropical Storm Isaac, Haiti gets hit again, but this time by Hurricane Sandy, a category 2 hurricane. It resulted in 3 intense days of non-stop rain that brought mudslides, severe flooding, death and devastation.
Child Hope facilities were spared but, once again, our neighbors in the nearby tent cities and ravine communities were hit very hard. Thankfully, we had already repaired many tents and homes in the aftermath of Isaac that fended well in the storm. Unfortunately, there were hundreds of other tents and homes that did not do so well.
As Americans respond to Hurricane Sandy, Haitians are still suffering. Officials raised the storm-related death toll across the Caribbean to 65, with 52 of those coming in Haiti, which was pelted by three days of constant rains that ended only on Friday.
As the rains stopped and rivers began to recede, authorities were getting a fuller idea of how much damage Sandy brought on Haiti. Bridges collapsed. Banana crops were ruined. Homes were underwater. Officials said the death toll might still rise. "This is a disaster of major proportions," Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe told The Associated Press, adding with a touch of hyperbole, "The whole south is under water."
A team from San Diego's Project Reach was staying at the Lighthouse Guest House when the storm hit and the entire team stepped in to join Child Hope staff to help repair tents in a nearby tent city.

Serving in Our Community
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
Many people think of Child Hope primarily as an orphanage. While that is true, what they don't see is the extensive work done in the surrounding community on a daily basis.
Here are just a few of the very special families we have the privilege of serving:
Baby Guy-Marcus came to Child Hope in mid-October. Though he looks small enough to be a newborn, his mother informed us that he is nearly a year old. His tiny eight-pound body desperately needed nutrition. He is the only surviving triplet born to his mother. She is currently pregnant with twin siblings on the way. To help sustain Guy Marcus and to help prevent problems with her two unborn children, Susette and Bill are feeding both Guy Marcus and his mother every day. Through healthy daily meals, Guy Marcus has gained over 3 pounds in just two weeks and his mother looks healthier as well.
Angelica and her two brothers Stanley and Gasson have come to the feeding program for several months. Angelica was brought to Paula, one of our nurses, by several staff members who noticed that her skin was in such bad condition that she could not turn her neck. Paula discovered that Angelica's brothers were raising her because their dad was not at the house and their mom had disappeared. Susette decided to remove Angelica until her skin improved. She spent several weeks at the girls home and several weeks in the staff house. During this time Angelica's dad moved out and her mom reappeared (expressing desire to provide for her children). Because of the care Angelica received through Child Hope, her skin has greatly improved and she has returned home (to her mom, her wonderful brothers and her favorite pair of flip-flops). Michelet is a mason in the community who was part of our earthquake rebuild team for two years. We have known his family for the last eight years and know that he is a good husband and father to his five children. Several weeks ago, he was riding on the back of a motorcycle taxi and was caught in a hanging phone cable. He was flung off his motorcycle and slammed to the pavement. Ariana and Paula visited him in his home after a hospital visit where it was determined that his hip was broken. Upon later examination it was discovered that his shoulder was also permanently damaged. He has received consistent medical assistance from Child Hope as well as food for his large family. If you are interested in contributing to our community assistance fund, please click here to donate. Specific it is for community assistance. Thank you and God bless.

Christmas 2012
Preparations for the Christmas 2012 are well under way! We are busy emailing, organizing practicing and planning for the most wonderful event of the year. Christmas at Child Hope consists of a number of activities including our Christmas Pageant, muTch Feeding Program special meal, MDL School's Special Christmas Program, as well as gifts and a special Christmas meal on Christmas day for our Lighthouse kids and staff.

Our stateside office is currently trying to raise funds, receive gifts such as shoes, balls, and other items and coordinate teams to transport these gifts in November and December.
If you would like to help with Christmas at Child Hope visit this link for details concerning what gifts are still needed and how you can help. Thank you and God bless.

Missions Teams
There are many ways you can help out the efforts of Child Hope - sponsor a child at the orphanage, sponsor a child at the school, donate to a number or projects or programs, hold bake sales or other fund-raising events, volunteer to serve in the states. But one of the most life-changing ways to support Child Hope is by serving in Haiti as part of a short-term missions team.
As part of a m issions team you are able to come along side our missionaries in Haiti, meet and serve the beautiful children that are part of the Maison de Lumiere children's homes and work and serve in our local community.
Missions teams do a variety of things to help our efforts in Haiti. Here is just a laundry list of some of the many things teams do:
- Build and repair things
- Conduct VBS programs, bible studies and bible contests for the kids
- Work with the muTch feeding program
- Support an event like our Christmas Pageant, Flag Day, Earthquake anniversary, and school and orphanage graduations
- Conduct soccer or basketball clinics
- Teach art, photography, or ?
- Paint a mural
- Plant a garden or do landscaping
- Treat the kids to a day at a beautiful Caribbean beach
- Train teachers at the MDL School
- Hold a medical or dental clinic
- Minister to the tent city and ravine communities
- Participate in our twice weekly community worship events
- Teach carpentry, furniture making, silk screening, sewing, baking, jewelry making and more at our Transition Home
- Teach the kids about videography and make a movie with the kids as actors and premier the movie on your last night in Haiti
And the list goes on and on -- only limited by your imagination.
If your church, school or group is interested in scheduling a one week or ten day missions trip, click here to contact us for information and available dates. We also schedule smaller groups like families, couples and individuals. There are still great dates available in 2013.
