Federal Student Aid Meeting 9/15
Texas City High School is hosting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Informational Meeting on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 6 p.m. in the TCHS cafeteria.

Topics to be discussed include:

What is federal student aid?
Who gets federal student aid?
How to apply for federal student aid?
When do I complete the FAFSA?
What information do I report on the FAFSA?
Where does my FAFSA information go once I submit it? And
I completed the FAFSA...now what?

Character education at Roosevelt-Wilson
Roosevelt-Wilson Elementary School was able to see the NED Show last week. It is a character education program that centers around three important messages that all have life long relevance:

Never give up
Encourage others
Do your best

During the assembly, students learned about those three messages while also enjoying storytelling, magic, humor and yo-yo tricks.

Roosevelt-Wilson received the program for free through a Pay-It-Forward program. When students purchase NED gear like yo-yos, those purchases help send the assembly on to another school. We think that is really cool!

Markerspaces debut in TCISD libraries
Recently all of the Texas City ISD librarians met to brainstorm how they could incorporate Makerspaces in District libraries.

Blocker Librarian Lou Ann Bright said that Makerspaces
are "Do It Yourself" spaces where students can gather to create, invent, and learn.

"At Blocker, we have tried to couple that with STEAM, which
is an educational method to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for promoting dialogue and critical thinking," she said. "We are are definitely looking forward to our students learning to take safe risks, participate in experiential learning, problem-solving, collaboration, and work through the creative process. We see these students as being our innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century!"

Students at Blocker are using Zoob Builders (snap together pieces with joints that move) and Magformers (tiles which lock and unlock and additionally show action and reaction).

Mrs. Bright said the will also
be using the Makerspace starter boxes which multiple innovative hands-on activities like GOOGLE Cardboard, which is a 3-D look into virtual reality.

Libraries aren't just for books!
