Band picked for Valero Alamo Bowl
The Texas City High School Band has been invited to the 2016 Valero Alamo Bowl Game on December 29 in San Antonio.
"This once in a lifetime event will change our students' lives forever," said Matthew Raines, Texas City ISD Director of Bands. "The memories that will be made during this event will help them realize how important it is to contribute to something much larger than themselves."
The event will have more than 75,000 fans in attendance. The TCHS Marching Band will join 1,800 students from across the nation to celebrate the playoff game between two colleges during the half time performance. Raines said the Sting Band is also entered into the field show competition, parade review competition and the River Walk Pep Rally.
The activities surrounding the Valero Alamo Bowl game will begin on December 26 and end on December 30, 2016. This trip will require many fundraisers. Any individual or business that would like to donate toward the cost of the trip can email Raines or call him at 409-916-0824.
"This is an exciting time to be in Sting Nation," said Raines.

Heights Heroes get a visit by Jim Lord
Heights Elementary had their 6th Annual Heights Heroes Awards recently honoring students displaying good character and hero qualities. The Heights Hero program is funded by the TCISD Foundation for the Future.
There was a surprise visit by Jim Lord, founder of The Character Network, and creator of our hero messages, The Beginning of a Hero. Thanks to a generous gift by the Texas City Kiwanis, Mr. Lord's visit was possible.
Jim Lord is a former long-time radio personality, professional speaker, and columnist, who is directing his efforts toward the encouragement of young people. A parent of six children, Jim promotes the philosophy that positive personal vision is the single most important thought process of successful youth.
He is the founder of The Character Network. He also writes and produces The Beginning of a Hero and Bully Alert!, designed for students in grades K-6 as a proactive bully prevention / POSITIVE PERSONAL VISION program, and he follows up with personal appearances in school assembly presentations. His programs are applauded as timely and effective tools for teaching character and personal vision.

Modern Woodmen give matching grant
Modern Woodmen again this year matched $5,000 in funds raised this past April at the TCISD Youthfest & Duck Derby hosted by the TCISD Foundation for the Future. Fourteen TCISD school organizations received these matching funds to use toward their clubs programs in the district for our students. This is the third year that Modern Woodmen has matched funds to support our students. We sure appreciate this sponsorship and look forward to working with them in future years.
