Cahanap chosen for Marine leadership Texas City High School Marine JROTC Cadet Gunnery Sergeant Richard Cahanap has been selected from thousands of applicants to attend the United States Marine Corps Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy. The SLCDA is a one-week course at the Marine Corps Base at Quantico, VA for America's top high school students. The ideal candidates for the program are service-oriented and academically sound who will take the three pillars of Character Development, Leadership and Ethics and incorporate it into their daily life. Throughout the week-long academy, they will be exposed to the Marine Corps' core values of honor, courage and commitment, while learning and practicing concepts of leadership and service to others. The goal is for these high caliber high school juniors and seniors to return to their schools and communities with a greater sense of purpose and the ability to serve as advocates for the Corps. While not a recruitment activity, many students who complete the academy are enthusiastic about joining the Marine Corps.
The academy will focus on ethics, education and leadership development and application. Distinguished guest speakers who have participated in athletic, leadership, and service-oriented activities and possess strong moral and ethical standards will be featured at the academy. In addition, there will be a visit to Washington DC. "This is a notable and laudable accomplishment," said Senior Marine Instructor/MCJROTC Major Christopher Westhoff, USMC (ret). TCISD suspends LOE for new students
Due to the annexation of La Marque ISD beginning in the 2016-17 school year, and in anticipation of limited classroom space, the Board of Trustees voted to suspend the Limited Open Enrollment (LOE) program. Students who were enrolled in the program in 2015-16 will be allowed to remain if they continue to meet the attendance, grading, discipline, and testing criteria. However, no new applications for students living outside the district will be accepted other than those of TCISD employee's children.
Current LOE Students and Staff Transfer Students
Students who are currently enrolled in 2015-2016 under the limited open enrollment policy are in the process of being pre-evaluated for 2016-2017. As soon as final STAAR/EOC scores are received, those students will be notified by mail as to whether they will be able to enroll for 2016-2017.
Staff Transfers TCISD employees who live outside the district are eligible to apply for enrollment of their children. Contact the Student Data Office at 409-916-0125 or email Tiffany Beard for application instructions. Staff transfer applications are NOT subject to a deadline and can be submitted with required documents (grades, attendance, discipline, test scores) at any time during the year. For additional information, call 409-916-0125 or email Lisa Campbell.
