Hal Biery serving for all school children
Hal Biery of Texas City ISD was one of 95 school board members developing the legislative program of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). Biery was elected to the TASB Legislative Advisory Council during the regional grassroots meeting of public school board members earlier this year. The Council met in Austin on April 16 to consider the regional legislative priorities identified by school board members across the state and develop one statewide list of priorities to guide the Association. The TASB Advocacy Agenda, created through direct input from Texas school board members, guides the legislative advocacy efforts of the Association on behalf of public school students. The Council discussed issues related to school finance, governance and accountability during its meeting, which is the first of three. The priority statements finalized by the Council during its next meeting on June 16 will go to TASB's Legislative Committee and Board of Directors for review before they are sent to TASB's Delegate Assembly for final adoption in September. TASB is a voluntary, non-profit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas School districts. Its membership includes every public school district in the state, as well as county school boards, junior colleges, tax appraisal districts, cooperatives and education service centers. TASB represents the largest group of elected officials in the state. In addition, Biery has been elected as a Director of the Gulf Coast Area Association of School Boards (GCAASB) for the 2016-17 school year. The GCAASB is a voluntary organization composed of more than 50 school boards in the greater Houston area to enhance the quality of education for public school children in the Texas Gulf Coast area by providing education and information to local school boards, and creating an opportunity for local school boards to impact legislation affecting public schools.

HOSA Blood Drive will impact 513 people
The Texas City High School HOSA sincerely thanks everyone who participated in their Blood Drive last week. There were a total of (208) donors registered, (171) whole blood donors and (37) were unable to give.
When those blood units are separated into 3 different components (typically red cells, platelets and plasma), it means that 513 patients lives were extended or saved by these generous donors!
